Did you know chickens play an important role in our rotational grazing ecosystem? They’re not just following the other animals around—they’re actually helping improve the land! 🌾
Here’s what our chickens bring to the rotation:
🐔 Natural Pest Control
Chickens scratch through the soil looking for insects, larvae, and other pests. Less unwanted bugs = a healthier pasture without relying on chemical treatments.
🌱 They Spread Nutrients
As chickens move through the pasture, their manure naturally adds nutrients back into the soil, helping feed the next round of pasture growth.
🪱 They Help Break Down Manure
Chickens love scratching through manure left behind by larger livestock. They break it apart while searching for insects and help distribute those nutrients across the pasture.
🌿 They Encourage Healthy Soil
Their scratching disturbs the very top layer of soil, helping incorporate organic matter and manure while stimulating natural decomposition.
♻️ They Complete the Rotation
Our animals each have a job. Sheep graze the vegetation, pigs work the soil, chickens and ducks follow behind, and then we give that area time to rest and regenerate. It’s a natural cycle designed to work with the land instead of against it.
