Stopped in to Sweet Meat Butcher Shop to load up for a couple weekends of bbq!

This past weekend we partnered up with Sweet Meat Butcher Shop to compete at the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest and it was an unimaginable experience.

We were also partnered with Darksideofthegrill who cooked the open fire division and MAC BBQ who cooked the ancillaries, all the food was great.

Our cook was good for an 8 place in the world whole hog! I cannot thank Bobby and Crystal enough for allowing me to assist in cooking with them at this event!

Had a fly in contest this weekend in Kansas City for Smokin' In The Creek BBQ Contest. As always Sue and her team put on a very smooth event.

The cook as well was very smooth, I thought all 4 of the boxes were good turn ins and I wouldn’t have changed anything.

7th - Chicken 🐔
15 - Ribs Prairie Fresh
23 - Pork - I need help :(
1st - Abattiranch Wagyu Brisket

Which lands a 13th overall at a very low scoring event.

Great to be back with Family, Friends and awesome co workers for a quick cook a leave. Taking a break for the month of May but looking forward to teaming up for Memphis in May International Festival with Bobby Gay and Andy McElhannon.

Slow to getting around to making a post just like I was slow to getting around for this contest. I was excited to compete at the BBQ Showdown as it’s finally a contest that’s pretty close to Jax. It was great getting parked next to my great friends at Sweet Meat Butcher shop and hanging with them and planning on teaming up next month 🤟👀

My weekend was filled with problems, like not able to find supplies at a grocery store and not being in town all week to do my prep oh and my ac unit shooting water all over my trailer.

Friday night I competed in the Friday night rib burn and took 7th out of 21 rib teams. More contests should take notes on these one meat contests it is a lot of fun.

Saturday my cook went very smooth but the results flipped on me!

21st - Chicken 🐔😢
15th - Ribs
32nd - Pork
2nd - Brisket

Great to see my brisket finally wake back up and help land me the 16th overall out of 41 great teams. Up next Smokin' In The Creek BBQ Contest this coming weekend.

We have made the drive back home from Torry Island BBQ Showdown and man was this event everything I was told it would be. It is no surprise that there was a 10+ team waitlist to get in! We had a great time with everyone and an even better time Saturday evening with our BBQ family.

Kevin and his team really set the bar for contests. All teams were provided a gift bag with snacks that we probably will have for a week, a bottle of local Rum, and a MEATER thermometer! We also were delivered coffee and breakfast during the cook! Oh and had created the coolest trophies for all categories.

As for the competition I was lucky enough to earn two of those trophies! And that overruled how my big meats faired

4th - Chicken Springer Mountain Farms
3rd - Ribs Prairie Fresh
20th - Pork
27th Brisket… ouch

20th overall in a tough field. Congrats to my boy Tillman Lee Nelson III on GC I’ve only ever seen 3 180s in one day one other time!
