One reason I enjoy doing chores is because these guys are always happy to see me. They literally jump for joy! 🐑 🐑 I started my video a little late, but they dance in circles for feed. I am so thankful for the families who made visiting Enchanted Acres each fall a family tradition! After 11 seasons of watching your families grow, we’re going to miss you all! You have a special place in our hearts. ❤️ We also have enjoyed hosting numerous school field trips and visits from local care centers and daycare groups. 🚌 My mom has enjoyed helping several of these group paint pumpkins. Thank YOU one and all!
When you operate a family business, the business doesn’t run without family. I started off the month of November by giving thanks to my husband. Because today is our milestone 25th wedding anniversary, I believe it’s most fitting to give him another shoutout. 🥂 I’m especially grateful this “agronomy guy” feeds my livestock when I travel for work. 🐐🐓 🐈
I’m so thankful that my kids got a break from college, and I thoroughly enjoyed this long holiday weekend with family. Today’s weather was perfect for a Christmas tree farm “experience” with our Italian exchange student. I’m thankful my girls decorated the tree while I was at church tonight. 🌲 Tonight I enjoyed our church’s annual Advent by Candlelight program. I decorated my table with one of my grandmother’s beautiful tablecloths, another grandma’s Christmas ornaments and my mother-in-law’s wedding China. ❤️ (Too bad I forgot to take a single photo of my own table, so I’m sharing photos of others’ tables.) I’m thankful for time today to just ”be.”
The biggest shopping weekend of the year seems like a perfectly fitting time to recognize Cindy Long. Cindy brought 30 years of experience working for top-end retailers like Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue to The Marketplace at Enchanted Acres. She has the warmest smile and pleasing disposition. Cindy also is great at reading children’s storybooks during field trips. I appreciate all that Cindy has done to make our little pumpkin farm a magical experience for farm guests of all ages.
This woman has so many talents! She can plan a party with the snap of her fingers. She makes the most delicious Chex mixes, scones and brownies. With her warm smile and Australian accent, Yolanda has served many satisfied customers inside The Marketplace Cafe. Hot Beef Sundaes and Chicken Tacos are two lunch specials that my kids will drive home from college to enjoy. I appreciate all of her help!
Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours! May your turkey be juicy and your pie crust be flakey. 🍁 🦃 🥧 We have so much to be grateful for like each other and delicious food on our tables. Today I also give thanks for the Iowa Turkey growers who, despite extreme challenges, have once again delivered. Earlier this week I got to meet the Iowa family that raised Stars and Stripes, the two turkeys pardoned by Gov. Kim Reynolds.
Iowa is home to more than 130 turkey farms? Our great state ranks 7th nationwide in turkey production. The four-year-old farmer, who is pictured with me on the right, taught me so much! He advised me to approach them slowly.
I’m so thankful for all the behind-the scenes help I get from Katy Flint. She has helped coordinate fall activities, including Books in the Barn and Police in the Patch. She also helps provides social media support and helps answer guests’ questions.

Thank you to officers from the Rockwell and Sheffield police departments for talking with kids and handing out treats at Enchanted Acres! 🚔 Thanks also to Regan Banks, director of North Iowa Youth Center / RKB Inflatables, for setting up the Paw Patrol inflatable for our weekend of fun. 🐾 Warm, sunny weather made our Police in the Patch all the more enjoyable.
I couldn’t resist taking this photo of my two favorite goats tonight because the sunset was especially beautiful. 🌅 I’m grateful for the most beautiful fall weather we’ve experienced in 11 seasons. There was only one day this fall where a strong, cold wind kept people at home. That’s a record! I am thankful to live in the Midwest where we experience four distinct seasons. ❄️ ☔️ 🌞 🍁 P.S. I’m grateful that my friend Sara Broers, author of 100 Things To Do in Iowa Before You Die, made Enchanted Acres a stop for her book signing. 📚 🚘 🗺 Sara and I share a love of traveling and promoting our great state. She has been so encouraging as I’ve chased my dreams, and I’m thrilled to see her achieve hers. P.S. This book might make a great Christmas present for someone you know. 😉
He’s a man of quiet strength with a great sense of humor and a servant’s heart. I’m so grateful for the countless hours Dean has spent driving the tractor and giving hayrides for the past three seasons at Enchanted Acres. I feel extremely blessed to have met him.
Today I’m shining the spotlight on Jessica Simmons- 2023 Franklin County Teen Miss United States Agriculture. Earlier this fall she and Rebekah Craighton- 2022 National Hostess Miss United States Agriculture led a Books in the Barn story time to teach farm guests about dairy. 🐄
I first met Rebekah Craighton- 2022 National Hostess Miss United States Agriculture when, as a senior in high school, she spent a day job shadowing me. It has been such a pleasure joining her on farm tours in her role as National Hostess. I appreciated her help teaching others about agriculture by leading story time this fall at Enchanted Acres.
Bekah’s is smart and tenacious. She finds a way to get things done when others would make excuses. She takes a genuine interest in helping others reach their goals, too. Young girls interested in agriculture need more role models like her.
Please join me in wishing Rebekah the best as she hands down her title as Midwest Cover Miss this week. She leaves big shoes to fill, but she will remain advocating in her role as National Hostess. 👠
This fall we were blessed by the most amazing volunteer helper! Positive, energetic and hardworking are three words that readily come to mind when I think of Addyson Moellers- 2023 Franklin Co IA Jr. Miss United States Agriculture. I have so much respect for a girl who wears a crown but isn’t afraid to get dirt under her nails. From picking pumpkins to leading story time and hosting Baby Day on the Farm, I appreciate all of Addyson’s help at Enchanted Acres.

I gained so much from my 10 years as a 4-H member, so Franklin County 4-H Day at Enchanted Acres has become one of my favorite annual events. Special thanks to Jackie Dohlman of Franklin County Extension for coordinating this event and for encouraging 4-H members to lead Make & Takes. 🍀
Anthony Martin of Logs4Heroes has entertained our farm guests on Opening Weekend for at least three consecutive years. Last year he also donated a beautiful carving that benefited the West Fork Food Pantry. 🥔 🫑 🍅 I meant to give Anthony a shout-out last Friday on Veterans Day because he has sacrificed so much for our country plus he continues to serve veterans through the non-profit he created. 🇺🇸 I’m grateful for all that Anthony does for the West Fork community, too.
It’s really hard to get a picture of Blake, although he has worked for years at Enchanted Acres. This year I snapped a pic of him in action, so he didn’t notice I had my camera aimed on him. Blake is a great help with our livestock. He’s also good at backing up trailers and hay racks — reverse is NOT my best gear. Thanks, Blake, for all of your help!
Eleven fall seasons have been filled with family fun! I never know who is going to visit, and it’s so much fun when I see family at the patch. I absolutely adore my great niece and nephews, as well as my goddaughter’s precious “little pumpkins.” I’m grateful for the memories made. 🎃 🎨 🍁
I’m thankful for the exchange students who embraced America’s Halloween tradition of dressing up in costumes for the delight of our farm guests. 👑 I appreciated having these princesses walk around the pumpkin patch, spreading a little magic wherever they went. 💫
We created so many great family memories at Enchanted Acres! 💕 Rather than being sad these times are over, I am choosing to give thanks. I am grateful my dad shared with me his love of producing crops and livestock.
I’m so thankful for my Aunt Jeanie, who helped with several field trips this fall. She taught kids that chickens lay one egg per day and chickens with brown ear lobes lay brown eggs. with white ear lobes wear white ear lobes. 🐓🥚
I’m so thankful for my Aunt Marlene, who is pictured here with my daughter. (Elle loves hanging out with “the girls,” as she affectionately refers to my mom and my mom’s two sisters.) Marlene has worked our gate for the past two seasons and also helped with field trips. We’ve worked hard and also shared some good laughs.
My son, Ian, makes the heavy lifting look easy! 💪 He is a Junior at Iowa State University (ISU), so his time to help me is limited. I appreciate Ian’s help and enjoy working with him. I also enjoy when he brings friends to the pumpkin patch.
Although it has been an especially busy fall semester, Elle Latham came home from college every weekend to help at Enchanted Acres. My daughter makes work fun by telling jokes. Elle has a zest for life and finds joy in simple pleasures like sunsets. 🌅
Today’s the day! CIndy is selling some of the crafts she made. You’ll also find unique wooden earrings made by my brother and homemade jams made by my mother. 😋
I am so thankful for all of the support that my husband, John Latham, has lent (especially) this year! ❤️ More than once, I called John in a panic because we had run out of something crucial for our café. John patiently ran errands and filled in as a tractor driver for hayrides when needed. He’s even gotten comfortable taking care of our daughter’s horse and feeding goats when I’m traveling. 
I am so grateful for Rod Fesenmeyer’s help. For the past three years, my brother has helped me plant pumpkins before his full-time day job begins. He also has helped plant and harvest our corn maze. This year he was instrumental in getting new lights on our GIANT pumpkin. 🎃 Rod patiently fixes whatever I break, backs my trailers into tight spaces, and is an awesome problem solver. There are some people you can work well with, and we work well together. He’s a keeper!

As has become tradition, I’m kicking off my “30 Days of Thanks” post with a tribute to my mom. Enchanted Acres started in 2012 because (1) My parents raised me to believe I could accomplish whatever goal I set; (2) They encouraged me along the way; and (3) They worked beside me to make my dreams come true. My mom can outwork people less than half her age. She is literally the driving force behind the work that gets done throughout the year on our little pumpkin farm.
Shirley Fesenmeyer, you are an inspiration. I am so blessed to call you Mom.

Looking for ways to use Pumpkin Butter? This morning I enjoyed a homemade pumpkin spice latte. 😋 Here’s what I did: 1 regular coffee pod, 1/4 cup pumpkin spice creamer, 1/4 cup 2% milk, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 tsp. sugar, and 1 T Enchanted pumpkin butter. 🎃 Of course, you can always make a Pumpkin Patch Panini. We use Sara Lee Artesian Bread, pumpkin butter plus shaved Ham and Provolone from Louie's Custom Meats and More in Clear Lake.

Yesterday’s rainfall brought some much needed moisture for our crops and provided crisp, morning air today. As a result, these kids feel like kicking up their heels. The birds are singing, and I’m enjoying a latte under my awning with my favorite farm cat, Prince Charming. It’s been too long since I’ve enjoyed a morning like this. 🌞 🌱 🐐
