My heart is broken for all those who have been affected by hurricane Helene, and now Milton. Praying that the Lord would keep them safe, would bring comfort and salvation to those who do not yet know him, and that we as a country would be able to support and help those who are suffering. π
This has led me to look into the history of hurricanes, which is really fascinating for a nerd like me. But one thing that I am finding out very quickly, is that thanks to our technology now, we have far less loss of life than we used to.
Also, I am learning that these massive storms are not as rare as we think they are. We are just better at recording them and getting people to safety because of our technology. But I think maybe it is a bit arrogant to think that we will never be surprised by the weather and catastrophe, and maybe we could better prepare our minds and spirits.
The Bible is clear that not only are our souls affected and damaged by sin, but so is the natural world. One day, He will make all things new, without the destructive, core - rotting effect of sin. But that is not today.
As difficult as it is, we live in a broken world, with broken governments, broken bodies, broken minds, broken souls. But God, in His great loving kindness and compassion has made a way to fix what is broken and redeem all the pain. If you struggle to make sense of all the destruction you are seeing or experiencing, I pray you would seek to know the One who stands ready to redeem it all. Find comfort in His goodness and sovereignty, even when everything is confusing and painful and falling down around you. He can make sense of it, bring good out of it, give purpose to that pain. He can bring peace to your soul, and hope for the future.
If you have not yet given your life to the one who gave His life for you, I pray that you would today. π
