We live in a time where people actually believe their food just comes from the grocery store. They give no thought as to how it gets there, who grows it, or who manufactures the products they shove in their carts.

"Why do we need farmers and ranchers?" they ask, with their mouths full, explaining that everything they eat comes from the local supermarket or a drive-thru on the corner. Our education system and government and generations that came before us have failed us, and now, we have an entire industry that has to fight tooth and nail to exist.

When the 2% stop growing crops, or raising livestock, what are you going to eat? I don't care what your diet looks like, your food comes from the earth, not a store. Even highly processed food still starts in the field. Kale and spinach and cauliflower are grown in the dirt, not on a concrete parking lot.

I wish everyone could step foot in a wheat field. That we could all plant a garden and watch it grow, to tend to the soil and the plants. Maybe even help on a ranch, and see how livestock are raised and cared for.

Just like your clothes, and that cell phone in your hand, everything comes from the earth and someone, somewhere, has utilized the bounty of this planet to produce it. Stop believing the lie that everything comes from a store. Without agriculture, we'd all be naked and hungry.

I hope we figure it out before it gets to that.
