Wanted to send a heads up. I’m sure most people are aware how dangerous nitrates are in forage this time of year. It’s hot and it’s DRY DRY DRY. Johnson grass and Sudan grasses are notorious for retaining nitrates. Crabgrass as well as other plants can retain the nitrates too.
I’ve been seeing several people putting up hay the last day or two and I hope they are checking the forage.
If you are buying hay ask when was it cut or has it been checked.
The nitrates will kill livestock and can cause abortions.
