Brewbound captured a snapshot of our latest September newsletter in which we explored the evolving world of Craft B**r, including a focused deep dive into the performance between Craft conglomerates (collectives, alliances, rollups, etc.) vs. the STILL deep field of single-brand suppliers.

While there is certainly more to the story beneath the surface of high-level, retail sales trends, it was still an interesting exercise to examine the current Craft hierarchy & how size/scale may or may not correlate to momentum.

Craft rollups aren’t translating consolidation into retail growth, according to new Bump Williams Consulting scan data. 🍺📉

BWC’s latest report analyzed 38 “craft conglomerates” spanning more than 180 brand families, finding fewer than 25% have posted YTD growth in NIQ-tracked off-premise channels through Aug. 15. Collectively, those platforms are down 5.2% in dollar sales — below overall craft’s 4.6% decline — and the gap widens when the largest players are removed from the equation. Bump Williams’ takeaway: “There does not appear to be any distinct correlation between power and numbers.”

C***r quietly continues to be a positive outlier amidst otherwise challenging trends for the broader B**r category & this was a fun exercise to decompose the key drivers behind C***r's recent success. Check out the recap through the Brewbound link below.

Hard c***r may be growing — but 77% of the segment’s dollars are controlled by just 10 vendors. 🍎📊

According to new data from Bump Williams Consulting, hard c***r dollar sales rose 3.6% in the latest 52 weeks, with Boston B**r commanding a 35.8% share and adding more than $17 million in sales. Meanwhile, only two of the top 10 b**r vendors are actively participating in c***r, compared to eight in non-alcoholic b**r — a reflection of c***r’s slower, single-digit growth and highly concentrated landscape.

While leading players like 2 Towns, Blake’s and Schilling posted gains, the bottom 200 c***r-focused vendors saw dollar sales decline 6%, underscoring how difficult it is to break through in the top-heavy category. 🍺📉

Recap of our May newsletter where we dug into recent trends and developments across the Craft B**r landscape to separate the ongoing challenges from the hidden signs of potential that can sometimes get lost in the noise.

Nearly four out of every 10 craft brands recorded growth in the off-premise through mid-April, according to the latest monthly update from data and consulting firm Bump Williams Consulting (BWC).

The trifecta of Margaritas, Teas and Lemonades have been a bright spot when it comes to BevAl incrementality, though not all flavor alternatives are created equal when it comes to recent relevance. There are several dynamics within that separate the Growth Drivers from the Loss Leaders.

Ready-to-drink (RTD) hard lemonade has surged to $1.5 billion in sales, but new styles are squeezing out the segment's mainstays.
