The season is shifting and soon the fall rains will be here!

Fall is one of my favorite times to add to the garden. The cooler weather and returning rains give perennials a chance to settle in before winter.

We've been watering, fertilizing, and potting up perennials all summer long, and we're excited to have some fun new plants, as well as your favorites, and most popular plants from past sales.
And of course.....complimentary homemade cookies will be waiting for you!

Our annual fall sale will be Saturday September 26th, 9am-4pm right here at
Shady Acres.
27575 S.W. Thomson Mill Rd.
Sheridan Oregon.

We would love to see you!

Stay tuned - we'll be sharing more about our fall inventory soon!

One of my favorite experiments this year has been growing our native meadowfoam as ground cover.

It challenged me in several ways and it took a solid 8 weeks for me to learn what this sweet little plant wanted and didn't want. The first thing being, that
I sowed it too late!

But here we are! We have blooms and the hope of more volunteer meadowfoam next year.

Meadowfoam (Limnanthes Douglasii)
Native ground cover, pollinator favorite to native insects, easily reseeds in undisturbed soils, creates a lush carpet of ground cover that works well at suppressing weeds. And best of all, it adds charm to any garden while it does all that work!

What do you think? Have you ever considered adding meadowfoam as a groundcover?

I don't know about you, but yesterday's rain did wonders for my late July garden burn out.

The garden loved it too. ๐ŸŒฟ

If your garden is showing that July burnout and you need to fill some gaps, I would love to help.
Right now the Shasta Daisy's are still hanging on, the rudbeckia Hirta is is just getting started, and the gooseneck loosestrife is putting on a beautiful display.

These will be at our fall sales but if you are like me and plant all summer, appointment visits are available. Message me and we'll find a time to walk around the gardens and greenhouse and talk about your garden goals.

Happy Friday! ๐Ÿ’

Yesterday's bouquet made it's way to Newberg and into the hands of a smiling customer, and that makes my flower loving heart so happy.

This dreamy bouquet was delivered to a repeat customer yesterday, and I'm always so grateful when someone requests another bouquet.
Soft hues of pink, blue, and lavender arranged with that cottage garden feel I love so much! ๐Ÿ’
Every bouquet is a little different but each one is filled with flowers grown right here at Shady Acres.

Hey gardeners.......it's about that time to give those asters a little haircut.โœ‚๏ธ

You know that old saying "corn should be knee-high by the Fourth of July?" I use that same phrase as a reminder to trim my asters down to knee height this time of year.

A little trim now will encourage them to grow nice and bushy instead of tall and floppy and ensure that that they are covered in blooms come fall.
You're future self will love not having to stake them up and the bee's and butterflies will appreciate it too! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฆ‹

Starting a small nursery has taught me that some of the most rewarding plants to offer cannot be rushed. Growing from seed means investing for months, sometimes years sometimes before plants are ready and available.

This Verbascum was started from seed in early winter last year and has spent the last 12 months growing and being trialed right here in my own garden. Watching how it handles our soil, weather, and growing conditions gives me confidence it's a plant worth offering.

Seed starting is definitely a slower path to building nursery stock. And while it's not our only method for growing plants its definitely been the method that has taught me the most patience and dedication and confirmed that this little endeavor is growing into a bigger one in its own time.

Thank you for being here and watching us grow! ๐ŸŒฟ
