USDA APPOINTS NEW WORLD SCREWWORM
PREPAREDNESS ADVISOR

America Cannot Afford to Get This Wrong

The New World Screwworm (NWS) is no longer a problem confined to history books. It is once again emerging as a serious threat to America's livestock industry, wildlife populations, food security, and rural economy. Today's announcement by USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins appointing John Bellinger as Senior Advisor for New World Screwworm Preparedness underscores the growing urgency surrounding this issue and the need for immediate action.

At Beef Life, we recognize that the appointment of a dedicated advisor is an important step. Mr. Bellinger's extensive background in animal agriculture, food safety, cattle production, and international meat markets brings valuable experience to the fight. However, America's ranchers deserve more than announcements—they deserve a comprehensive, aggressive strategy that protects their livelihoods before this threat reaches our pastures and herds.

For many Americans, New World Screwworm may sound like an obscure agricultural issue. It is anything but. This parasite attacks living warm-blooded animals by laying eggs in open wounds. Once hatched, the larvae literally feed on living tissue, causing severe injury, infection, suffering, and often death if left untreated. A widespread outbreak could have devastating consequences for cattle, horses, sheep, goats, wildlife, pets, and potentially even humans. Beyond the animal welfare concerns, the economic impact to ranchers and producers could reach billions of dollars through livestock losses, increased treatment costs, movement restrictions, and disruptions to domestic and international trade.

The United States successfully eradicated New World Screwworm decades ago through one of the most successful animal health programs in history. That victory required extraordinary coordination between federal agencies, state governments, livestock producers, veterinarians, and international partners. The fact that we are once again discussing the possibility of this pest reaching American livestock should serve as a wake-up call for the entire industry.

America's cattle producers are already facing historic challenges. Record-high input costs, shrinking cattle inventories, drought conditions, foreign beef imports, market concentration among the Big Four packers, labor shortages, and increasing regulatory burdens have placed enormous pressure on family ranches across the country. The last thing ranchers need is another costly biological threat jeopardizing their operations. For many producers already operating on razor-thin margins, a significant New World Screwworm outbreak could be financially devastating.

This moment demands more than reactionary measures. It requires proactive leadership and long-term planning. Beef Life believes USDA should immediately prioritize:

✔ Enhanced surveillance and detection efforts along high-risk entry points

✔ Increased investment in sterile fly production and eradication technologies

✔ Stronger coordination with state animal health officials and veterinarians

✔ Improved communication and transparency with livestock producers

✔ Expanded emergency response protocols and contingency planning

✔ Greater investment in border and agricultural biosecurity measures

✔ Ongoing producer education and awareness campaigns

Most importantly, ranchers must have a voice in the process. Those who work the land and care for livestock every day understand the realities on the ground better than anyone. Solutions developed in Washington must be informed by the producers who will ultimately bear the burden of any outbreak.

The American cattle industry has overcome tremendous challenges throughout its history. We defeated New World Screwworm once before, and we can do it again. But success will require vigilance, accountability, investment, and collaboration. The cost of inaction is simply too high.

At Beef Life, we will continue monitoring this issue closely, advocating for policies that protect America's ranchers and food supply, and ensuring the voices of independent producers remain front and center in the conversation.

Because this fight is about far more than cattle.

It is about protecting American agriculture.

It is about preserving rural communities.

It is about safeguarding our nation's food security.

And it is about ensuring future generations of ranchers have the opportunity to continue producing the safest, highest-quality beef in the world.

🐂 It's a Mission. It's a Movement.

Join the fight to protect America's ranchers, strengthen our food sovereignty, and defend the future of the U.S. cattle industry.

NEW WORLD SCREWWORM:
HOW DID WE GET HERE?

Another New World Screwworm case was reported in LaSalle County this morning, bringing the total number of confirmed livestock-related cases to three. A fourth reported case involving a dog that had recently traveled to Mexico has not been included in the livestock count.

Many people are asking the same question: How did we get here?

The answer is complicated. It involves years of biosecurity challenges, management failures, gaps in policy, concerns surrounding the Panama sterile fly program, and the continued movement of livestock through regions where New World Screwworm remains a threat.
What is becoming increasingly clear is that this problem did not develop overnight.

The reemergence of New World Screwworm this close to America's cattle industry represents a serious warning sign. Regardless of politics, administrations, or agencies, the reality is that our nation's livestock producers deserve stronger protections and a more proactive approach to safeguarding our food supply and agricultural infrastructure.

At Beef Life, we believe this issue should unite—not divide—the cattle industry.
Pointing fingers won't solve the problem.

Taking action will.
The immediate priority must be stopping the continued northward spread of New World Screwworm.
* Stronger border biosecurity measures
* Increases surveillance
* Coordinated international efforts
* Rapid response protocols are all critical to protecting America's ranchers, raisers, livestock, and food supply.

The fact that New World Screwworm is now receiving significant national attention is encouraging.
Awareness matters.
Education matters.
Action matters.

However, many producers have been raising concerns about this threat for months. The conversation would have been better served if the industry, policymakers, and media had focused greater attention on the issue before it reached this stage.

Now is the time to move forward with urgency.
America's ranchers and raisers are on the front lines of food production. They deserve policies that protect their livelihoods, their animals, and the future of rural America.

Beef Life will continue advocating for truth, transparency, traceability, and common-sense solutions that strengthen American agriculture and protect our cattle industry from preventable threats.

Wild Fork Foods - JBS Behind the Label

Wild Fork Foods is marketed as a modern, premium protein retailer focused on quality, convenience, and healthy eating.

What many consumers do not realize is that Wild Fork is owned by JBS, the world's largest meat processor and one of the most vertically integrated meat companies on the planet.

JBS openly identifies Wild Fork as part of its North American beef operations, giving the company a direct pathway from global meat production all the way to the consumer's dinner table.

While Wild Fork promotes itself with messaging centered around quality, sourcing, and innovation, critics argue that it serves as a retail extension of a multinational meatpacking giant rather than a truly local or independent meat market.

JBS has faced years of scrutiny and controversy involving corruption investigations, environmental concerns, supply chain transparency, labor issues, and allegations related to cattle sourcing in sensitive regions. Because of this history, many ranchers, agricultural advocates, and consumer watchdog groups view JBS as one of the most controversial companies in the global meat industry.

Critics argue that Wild Fork's polished branding and health-focused marketing can obscure the reality that consumers are ultimately supporting a corporation that has repeatedly been the subject of ethical and environmental criticism.

For consumers who care about where their food comes from, ownership, transparency, and accountability matter just as much as the label on the package.

That's why Beef Life is building a different path forward. When you partner with Beef Life, you're supporting American ranchers and cattle raisers who are committed to producing high-quality beef while strengthening rural communities and preserving our nation's agricultural heritage.

Beef Life believes consumers deserve truth, transparency, and traceability in their food supply. Through Beef Life Certified beef, consumers can have confidence in knowing where their beef comes from and who raised it.

Every purchase helps support hardworking American families, not foreign-owned conglomerates.

The choice is about more than just buying beef—it's about investing in a food system that values accountability, integrity, and the people who produce our food.

The New World Screwworm Is Back.
America Must Act Now.

A Threat to American Ranchers, American Beef, and Our Food Security.

For decades, America's cattle producers fought and defeated one of the most destructive livestock pests ever to threaten our industry: the New World Screwworm.

This isn't a new threat. It devastated cattle herds across the United States throughout much of the 20th century, causing enormous economic losses and animal suffering.

Through decades of coordinated effort, scientific innovation, and determination, the United States and Mexico successfully pushed the parasite south and ultimately eradicated it from American soil.

That hard-fought victory is now under threat.
On June 3, 2026, USDA confirmed the first New World Screwworm case in the United States in decades after it was detected in a calf in South Texas. What was once viewed as a distant concern has now become a direct threat to American ranchers, livestock producers, and consumers.

Why This Matters
The New World Screwworm is not simply an agricultural issue.

It is a food security issue.

It is an economic issue.

It is an American beef issue.

When livestock are threatened, ranching operations are threatened. When ranchers face increased costs and production challenges, the beef supply tightens. When supply tightens, American families pay more at the grocery store.

The health of our cattle industry directly impacts the affordability and availability of one of America's most important food sources.

The Stakes Are High
For more than two years, cattle producers have watched this threat move steadily northward through Central America and Mexico. Concerns have been raised repeatedly by ranchers, veterinarians, state officials, and industry leaders.

Now that the screwworm has crossed into the United States, the focus must shift from warnings to action.
America cannot afford a slow response.

Every day matters.

Every herd matters.

Every ranching family matters.

We Have Tools Available
The sterile fly program remains one of the most successful animal health programs ever developed and should continue to play a major role in eradication efforts.

Many producers believe additional suppression strategies should be aggressively deployed alongside sterile fly releases to slow the spread and protect vulnerable livestock populations.

Potential tools include:
• Expanded livestock treatment programs in affected areas

• Greater use of insect growth regulators where appropriate

• Enhanced surveillance and rapid response efforts

• Deployment of proven adult fly suppression systems

• Increased international cooperation to push the threat back before it spreads further.

The goal should be simple: contain, suppress, and eradicate.

What This Means for Beef Prices:
American cattle supplies are already historically tight. Over the last several years, cattle prices have climbed significantly as producers faced drought, rising input costs, shrinking herd numbers, and market pressures.

Additional restrictions on cattle movement, quarantines, or disruptions caused by the screwworm could place even more pressure on supply.

That means higher costs throughout the supply chain and potentially higher prices for consumers.

Protecting America's cattle herd is about more than protecting ranchers. It is about protecting America's food supply. Supporting American Ranchers matters more than ever.

Beef Life, believes American ranchers and raisers are the backbone of our nation's food system working every day to provide safe, nutritious, and high-quality beef for families across the country.

When challenges like the New World Screwworm emerge, the response must be swift, decisive, and focused on protecting both livestock and the people who raise them.

What This Means for Beef Prices
American cattle supplies are already historically tight. Over the last several years, cattle prices have climbed significantly as producers faced drought, rising input costs, shrinking herd numbers, and market pressures.

That means higher costs throughout the supply chain and potentially higher prices for consumers.

Protecting America's cattle herd is about more than protecting ranchers.

🚨 ACTION ALERT 🚨
DON'T EXEMPT BRAZILIAN BEEF

The U.S. Trade Representative is considering a 25% tariff on Brazilian imports—but Brazilian beef could be left off the list.

That means imported Brazilian beef, including beef cuts, carcasses, offal, tongues, and livers, could continue entering the U.S. market without facing the same tariffs applied to other Brazilian goods.

This proposal comes despite concerns surrounding Brazil's trade practices, enforcement standards, and ongoing environmental issues that have raised questions about fairness and accountability in the global marketplace.

Meanwhile, American ranchers and cattle producers continue to operate under some of the highest production, animal care, food safety, and environmental standards in the world.

At Beef Life, we believe American consumers deserve transparency, traceability, and a food system that prioritizes American ranchers and ranch-raised beef.

If Brazilian goods are subject to tariffs, Brazilian beef should not receive special treatment.
