The next Shreveport Forward community lecture is coming up soon. Please join us on October 3 for the 24th talk in the series. It will be held in the University Center Ballroom (2nd Floor) on the LSUS campus from 10 am to Noon. We will be celebrating two years of community lectures and discussions. Light refreshments will be provided.

We will build on our recent discussions of zoning, infrastructure, and master planning. This session will focus on Highland Neighborhood Vision. While master plans define a city prescriptively, the ongoing visioning exercise with Highland residents is an organic approach. It is being developed organically through ongoing neighborhood meetings and is resident-driven. The ideas developed in the Highland process can apply to other neighborhoods in Shreveport, and we are actively working to start this process in several other neighborhoods. On October 3, we will continue the discussion, building on the three neighborhood sessions held to date. There are many elements to explore, so the October talk should be very interesting and informative.

Please feel free to share this email with others interested in helping shape Shreveport’s path forward. Let’s keep the transformation moving forward, one step at a time.

Save the Date - The 23rd lecture in the Shreveport Forward Series will be held on September 12th from 10 am to Noon in the 3rd Floor Assembly Room in the Noel Library on the LSUS campus.

This month's lecture will focus on transportation forms and access. Urban sprawl, infrastructure design, and other factors shape transportation access within neighborhoods and the city at large. We will look at examples from other cities and discuss how they could work in our community.

Please join us on September 12th.

Shreveport Forward met with the Highland neighborhood on Thursday evening, August 27, at First Presbyterian. This was the second meeting in a series to develop a Vision for the historic neighborhood. The discussion was lively, and many new ideas were added, reflecting the residents' views, needs, and future direction for Highland. The residents are creating their future.

The neighborhood will host the third session on September 22 from 6 to 7:30 pm at First Presbyterian. Please join us and contribute your ideas.

The 22nd Lecture in the series will be on August 8 from 10 am to Noon in the third-floor Assembly Room in the Noel Library on the LSUS Campus. It is Building 12 on the campus map below.

We will continue to build on our narrative of infrastructure, zoning, and infill housing with a general discussion of city master planning. Many cities, including Shreveport, engage in a master planning process. Is the process effective? Does it create the neighborhoods and cities that residents desire? How does it compare with other available approaches for city, neighborhood, and street design?

Please join us on August 8 from 10 am to Noon in the Noel Library, 3rd floor Assembly.

This coming Saturday, we will be holding our 17th community lecture in the Shreveport Forward series. It is from 10 to Noon in the Whited Room (Bynum Commons Building on the Centenary Campus.

The discussion will focus on Edge Cities and Urban Sprawl. Both of these elements have impacted Shreveport over the years. It has been a process that has occurred over many years. It has impacted our core neighborhoods and our central business district ( the C*D).

Our North Star provides a guide for beginning to address sprawl and the challenges it creates at the neighborhood level.
