Far Beyond Farm Far Beyond Farm is a private hobby farm in Smithfield Virginia. We have a variety of farm animals along with a small orchard and a few gardens.

Our goal is to share our experience as we grow and hopefully learn of others.

It finally happened...we know one or two of the young girls have started laying eggs as we are recently getting light brown ones. Due to this we have been leaving them in a little later so they lay in their boxes. Of course I found this one this afternoon in the hay stall...our first blue egg. ( It's much bluer than it looks in the picture). Glad I found it.

So I made an early announcement and it got delayed but we are excited to announce that Inferno's Almost A Gentleman aka Moo/Moo cow has arrived at the farm to become our first herd sire. He was still just young enough to meet his ladies who are infatuated. Such a sweet buckling thanks to Melissa Seltzer and her family. Can't wait to see what he throws with my.light girls.(May even see a little bit of roaming in his black areas).

I swear we almost had fresh chicken for dinner tonight. We have been letting out older three chickens out to free range until the young ones are old enough to join them and it was about to storm and them old bitties were refusing to go back in the run. Just circling around but not going in the door. Got them in and made it up just before the downpour.

Didn't get any pictures cause we were working too hard but Heidi did her first cross country schooling over the weekend. She did water jumps, banks, a ditch, and a few other random ones. After taking a minute to walk up and look at the first few she started marching up right away ready to go. So proud of her.

Spring is in the air at the farm. We were hits with some drought and cold so we lost a bit of fruit but the apples , a few peaches and 1 cherry seem to have survived. Blackberries are coming in strong and the figs are starting to recover from the cold. I. The meantime, the baby chicks are getting huge. I love the hairdo on my Easter Eggers.

As a break from baby chick spam the goaty girls have an exciting announcement. Come June they will have a new "friend"....

As a break from baby chick spam the goaty girls have an exciting announcement. Come June they will have a new "friend". He may look cute and cuddly now but this boy is the future of our herd. In the first picture he is the one standing. In the second picture he is the one jumping up for cuddles. Should be fun when he is a smelly buck. Excited for Inferno Almost A Gentleman (need to confirm name) to join our herd. Cant wait to see the color he will add. We have mostly light colored with some moonspot girls so his dark color with large white spotting should be an interesting mix. The last picture is our current girls...and one wether.
