"I'm turning Japanese, I'm turning Japanese."

Remember that song? Well, with tonight's personal weekend treat, I'm turning Japanese and made me one of my favorites, but it's been a minute since I've cooked it.

Tonkatsu is a quintessential Japanese dish consisting of a breaded and deep-fried pork cutlet, renowned for its crispy exterior and juicy interior.

The breading is Panko and the sauce is Tonkatsu sauce from the Asian food section, although I've made it from scratch in the past.

Tonight, grilled Hanger steak marinated overnight in Chaka's Mmm Sauce. Hanger steaks are hard to come by, but they're awesome cuts.

Regarding flavor and texture, Hanger steak is known for its intense beefy flavor, making it a favorite among steak enthusiasts.

It is often compared to flank and skirt steak but is more tender. The cut has good marbling which enhances its juiciness when cooked properly.

I have a confession and I'm coming out of the closet.

I've been hiding the fact that one of my favorite fried chicken joints is a gas station store in a seedy 'hood in the city. I was embarrassed to ever admit it, never spoke about it, ate it clandestinely, until one day, I read an article featuring Krispy Krunchy Chicken®.

So I wasn't a culinary bum, an outcast or a freak! Turns out, there's actually a whole lot of fans and this particular brand is widespread at gas stations, liquor & convenience stores all over the place, a vast universe of this low-level epicurean movement. Take a gander and pitch a wild guess as to how many are out there?

There are 2,600 locations spread across 47 U.S. states, American Samoa, Malaysia and Mexico. Blows your mind doesn't it? And I vouch, they're really good, can't speak for their healthiness though. 🤪

So if you ever spot a KKC®, do try them, they're pretty spot on and I'll cross the road for that chicken any day. "Hen"ce, now you know just a little bit more about the wide spectrum of the foodie in me.
