Happy Father’s Day from Schug Winery

This treasured photo captures the heart of what Schug has always been about: family, tradition, and a love centered around building something together.

From the vineyards of Sonoma to the dinner tables where wine is shared, we’re reminded that some of life’s greatest wisdom come from the fathers, grandfathers, and father figures who teach us the value of hard work, curiosity, and connection.

Today we raise a glass to all the dads who nurture, guide, encourage, and inspire.

Happy Father’s Day from our family to yours. 🍷

A foggy, misty morning in the Estate Vineyard offers a close-up look at the season’s progress. Johannes is checking on Block 10, home to our Dijon clones Pinot Noir, where clusters are developing beautifully and berries are beginning to size up.

These cool morning conditions are part of what makes the estate here so special for Pinot Noir. The gentle marine influence helps preserve freshness and balance as the vines move through this important stage of the growing season.

Every cluster tells part of the vintage, and it’s exciting to watch the fruit take shape one day at a time.

Thunder and lightning over Sonoma in late May.

Not something we expect as a rule as we border summertime, but it came and went and by morning, the vines in Block 10 were already dry again, thanks to the steady coastal breeze moving through the tightly clustered Pinot Noir.

It’s one of the subtle advantages of growing near the coast. That natural airflow helps relieve pressure in the vineyard, allowing Pinot Noir to thrive here season after season.

A reminder that vineyard site shapes everything, sometimes overnight.

Today, we pause to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to our country.

Here in Carneros, the vines move quietly beneath the flag, carried by the same wind that shapes this place we call home. A reminder that freedom, like farming, is never something to take for granted.

Wishing you a meaningful Memorial Day spent around good food, good company, and moments that make us slow down and savor the present.

A vineyard with bees is a vineyard in balance. It means there’s life between the rows, healthy soils, and a broader ecosystem doing its work alongside ours. The vines may not need bees to set fruit, but they benefit from the environment bees help signal and sustain.

At Schug, bloom is always a reminder of how much is happening beyond the grape itself. The vintage begins in these small, quiet moments — not just in the clusters, but in the life surrounding them.

And — they make delicious honey. Have you tried ours? 🍯

At Schug Winery, family has always been at the heart of what we do. This Mother’s Day, we’re especially grateful for the mothers, grandmothers, daughters, caretakers, and women whose love and steady presence shape families, communities, and this winery itself.

We honor Gertrud Schug, our founding mother, the second generation of Schug mothers, and the many mothers who are part of daily life here at the winery, helping create the warmth and hospitality our guests know and love.

Much like winemaking, motherhood is built slowly, patiently, and with lasting care.

From all of us at Schug, Happy Mother’s Day. 🍷

Bloom is one of the most underrated and important moments of the season.

For a few brief days, the vineyard shifts. Tiny flowers emerge, delicate and fleeting, each one carrying the promise of a single berry.

What happens here now will shape the vintage to come.

Before the wine, there is the land.

The soil, roots and the slow unfolding of a new vintage just beginning to take shape.

On Earth Day, we’re reminded that what we grow is only possible because of what we protect.

Spring, just as we hope it arrives ☀️

This past Saturday, our patio filled with a delightful gathering, warm sunshine, and the kind of easy conversation that makes time slow down.

We were honored to welcome Rex Pickett, enjoy the beautiful flavors of Gerard’s Paella, and settle into the lovely sounds of Josh Yenne.

There is something special about sharing new releases in moments like these, unhurried and full of life, surrounded by people who make it all meaningful.

We could not have asked for a more beautiful way to welcome spring. Thank you for being part of it 🌿🍷

From cellar to coast 🌊🍷

Johannes traded the cool stillness of the cellar for salty air in Hermosa Beach, stopping by Surfer Girl restaurant in to see our 2025 White Pinot Noir being poured by the glass.

There’s something special about finding our wines in places that feel like an extension of home, where coastal fare, ocean breeze, and a thoughtful pairing come together so effortlessly.

Crisp, bright, and made for moments like this, paired with fresh seafood, good company, and a table just steps from the sand.

If you’re nearby, it’s worth the stop! Until next time , Surfer Girl!
