55 years ago today, the first Brown Swiss were bought and brought home to our farm! My grandfather bought a cow, Star's Betsy Lass, a heifer, Roberta Orpha, and a 1 day old bull calf named Star Wizard Lee. All of them were bought from Robert and Gerald Lynn Bacon from McGraw, NY. 55 years later we now have just over 200 Brown Swiss total.

2 weeks ago (July 2nd) was a very sad day for our little farm. Our beloved Anna passed away at the age of 22. It has been 2 weeks trying to put together the words of how much she meant to us but I don't think it is possible. We knew the day would come we would have to say goodbye but it is still hard to accept that she is gone. Chores during the winter won't be the same without having to yell at her for stealing grain, being thrown into the gutter because we were trying to actually get chores done, chasing the pitchfork all over the barn so she could get scratched and just plain being in the way so she could get all the attention she thought she deserved. There were 3 rules you had to follow when she was around...1) she was the only cow to be petted when she was around (her jealousy fits were legendary), 2) never stand between her and her grain and 3) if you were holding a pitch fork while she was in the barn, you were to scratch her until she decided she had enough (which she never did). She was a great babysitter when we needed calves kept out of trouble and had a one-of-a-kind personality that no other will come close to. She was a very lovable pain in the ass but we loved her dearly and are very thankful for the just over 22 years we had with her! Anna...make sure grandma Robinson keeps you in well supplied in chocolate chip cookies up there and hopefully you will find a apple tree with a never ending supply of apples! RIP Anna! You will be forever missed!
