Alright. Sarah here. So - nothing is ever set in stone, and that includes our decision to move to the Mankato area. While this is still a possibility, there are still quite a few things drawing us to the Duluth area, as well.

At this point, we don't know where we will land. I'm doing market research for my equine-assisted psychotherapy business right now, and I'm looking at both the Mankato area and the Duluth area. Justin and the kids are on board with whichever place we all decide is the right place for us.

So - we're looking for the right property, and that's going to have a lot to do with where we end up. We need a place we can move into with enough cleared land for horses, within 25-30 minutes of either Mankato or Duluth. The rest is all negotiable. Let us know if you know of a place that might fit the bill, ESPECIALLY if it's not yet listed! Trust that we're allllll over the real estate websites and we have the fabulous Violet Love as our realtor, so if it's on like, Zillow or Realtor or Edina Realty, or LandWatch, or LandBin, or any of the other major online places for finding real estate, we're aware of it. :) Thank you so much everyone!

Hello all,

If you're friends with either Sarah or Justin on Facebook, you are likely already aware of this news, but for anyone who we aren't personal friends with (yet), the future of Different Farm has made a large shift in trajectory.

While we are planning on keeping the wooded acreage up by Finland, MN, which we had always envisioned on becoming Different Farm, we are now looking to relocate Different Farm - home to the Quetico family and location for Sarah's equine-assisted mental health program - down around the Mankato area in southern Minnesota. The land we've been referring to as Different Farm will simply be our land, where we intend to build a small, off-grid cabin getaway in the north woods. Eventually.

Nobody is getting any younger and we've come to realize that being closer to family and friends that we still miss down around Mankato, is where we want to be. We are currently looking for an existing location down there where we can put down roots for our family, bring Sir Lyric the Wonder Pony home (get him a friend or two..or three... :D) and start living the life we've had to put on hold while we tried to build everything from scratch.

This has not been an easy decision, but the more we think about going home, the more obvious it becomes that this is the right move for us.

Keep your eyes peeled for a suitable location for relocating Different Farm! The ideal property will have at least three bedrooms in a home we can move into without having to completely renovate first, bonus points for having a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and laundry on the main level, so we can grow old there. It will also have a two-stall garage or larger for a workshop, and space for a few horses. As much as we love the forest, we're not looking for an acreage where we'd have to clear land in order to make room for the horses. We're looking for somewhere the horses can move into shortly after we do and we don't want to take down a bunch of trees. We're more tree planters than clear cutters of the woods that we love. As this will also be where Sarah will be running her business from, it should be close enough to Mankato that clients would be willing to drive there for therapy sessions, so within 20-25 miles? Give or take?

If you know of a place that seems to fit the bill, please don't hesitate to send us a message! Thank you!

Different Party is next weekend! If you are coming up, please make sure you RSVP on the event page or talk to Sarah or Justin so we know to expect you! We need to know how many people are coming and how many tents and campers to plan for. Can't wait to see everyone - looking like peak fall colors! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿงกโค๏ธ๐Ÿ’›

Greenwood Lake Fire update from Different Farm. The shaded orange area is the closed/evacuation area. The smaller area within that is the current fire boundaries. Red lines are potential evacuation zones. Different Farm is located in the lower right corner circled in blue.

Second picture is a closer in view with the rough boundaries of our property with the most likely direction the fire would come in if it does. Our hope is that if it does happen to make it down to us that the recently clear cut county land would provide a bit of a break.

Sounds like we should be getting a bit of rain this weekend, but also a shift of wind will be coming, potentially pointing the fire towards us. I think Sarah estimated it was about 14 miles away from us as of yesterday. We are staying in Duluth this weekend, we really don't keep anything of major value at the property other than the horse trailer and tractor. We might consider going up to move those at some point if need be.

To be clear, we are not being directly affected by this and wish the best to those in the current path/evacuation zones. Thanks to the all of those on the ground and air helping, also the Forest Service for all of the updates.
