Hydration” with zero carbs sounds good… until you understand how your body actually absorbs fluids.

Your body uses something called the sodium-glucose transport system (SGLT1). In simple terms: sodium and glucose work together to pull water into your bloodstream more efficiently. That’s why many of the most effective hydration formulas contain BOTH electrolytes and carbohydrates.

That also doesn’t mean you should slam 30–40g of sugar in every drink.

Most traditional sports drinks overload you with sugar your body probably doesn’t need for everyday hydration.

The sweet spot is usually around 10–20g of carbs paired with balanced electrolytes — enough to support absorption and hydration efficiency without turning your drink into a soda.
