Stopped by for a quick bite today at The Crossing Coffe Plus and grabbed their toasted turkey & Swiss bagel sandwich. It was warm and had potential, but a little too simple for my taste—could definitely shine with a few extra additions.

I also ordered a vanilla latte, but unfortunately it was extremely bitter. That usually points to over-extracted espresso, old beans, or equipment needing a clean. Even after adding over a cup of milk at home, it still wasn’t something I’d drink.

On the positive side, they handed out full-sized dog biscuits for my pups, which they absolutely loved 🐾💛 That small gesture really made their day!

All in all, an okay spot for a quick bite, but I’d skip the latte next time. Bill total for a 20 Oz latte and sandwich plus tip 13.75. To see if this was a one off I will try at least one more time in the future.

Took the kids to Rozy’s Hot Shots in Deer Park and put together a quick photo review!
This spot has a cozy, modern vibe with comfy seating, a roll-up glass door to a cute patio, and even some board games to play. It was nice and quiet when we went — great for chatting, studying, or getting some work done.

☕ Drinks: 5 Stars
My vanilla latte was delicious, and Hazel’s Razzle Dazzle drink was a big hit.

🍽 Food: 2 Stars
Limited options. My breakfast sandwich was prepackaged/microwaved and the kids' muffins were just okay.

👨‍👩‍👧 Family-Friendly: 3 Stars
No changing table or highchairs, but still a comfortable space.
Bonus: They’re open on Sundays, which is rare for Deer Park!

Overall, amazing drinks, friendly service, and a great quiet spot — just not my go-to for food.

If you’re exploring local places around Deer Park/Spokane, this one is worth a stop for the drinks alone!

Backroads Bar & Grill – Our Breakfast Experience & Full Review

Backroads Bar & Grill has become one of our favorite low-key spots for breakfast, and honestly… it’s mostly because of their breakfast burrito. That’s been my go-to order for a while now. The burrito is huge—packed with home-cooked potatoes, eggs, and whatever meat you choose. I always ask for salsa on the side, and this time the waitress brought it before I even asked. She just remembered.

I love that it’s not greasy, not bland—just that perfect “home cooked at someone’s grandma’s house” type flavor. I can never finish the whole thing, which works out because half of it reheats perfectly the next morning. This time I tried the chorizo burrito, and the added spice made it even better.

I also always get coffee with vanilla creamer (because I’m not a black-coffee person at all) and they brought out a whole bowl of creamers, which is my love language.

My husband ordered the Backroads Scramble, which is a mix of potatoes, onions, mushrooms, peppers, ham, sausage, bacon, and scrambled eggs. He always adds ketchup—don’t ask me why, it’s just his thing. His plate also came with toast, and he usually sticks with water since he watches his sugar.

We both love the food here. It’s simple, hearty, home-style cooking—exactly what breakfast is supposed to be.

⭐ Atmosphere & Family Friendliness

The atmosphere is relaxed and surprisingly quiet in the mornings. When we bring the kids, they can go play arcade games while we talk and drink coffee. It’s a lifesaver.

A few things that stand out:

Clean tables and surfaces

Clean bathrooms

Baby changing station

Highchairs and booster seats

Several TVs showing funny clips or light entertainment

It’s very family-friendly, but still works for adults who want a calm morning meal.

⭐ Service

The service has always been:

Friendly

Fast

Consistent

And somehow our waitress remembered us—even our little habits and preferences—even though I honestly didn’t think we’d been in enough for anyone to remember. Either she’s amazing, or we’re more predictable than we think.

⭐ Food + Extras

Our breakfast total was around $44, which fits the portions—everything is big and filling.

Backroads also has some cool extras people don’t realize:

You can reserve the entire building for school events or large gatherings.

You can reserve specific tables for birthdays or get-togethers.

You’re allowed to bring your own cake/dessert for celebrations.

They do to-go orders, which is nice since it’s right on your way home.

It’s right next to Bear Lake Park, so it’s perfect for grabbing lunch and having a picnic.

They offer lunch, dinner, and a full bar with basic mixed drink options.

⭐ Overall Review: 9/10

Backroads Bar & Grill is a comfortable, family-friendly breakfast spot with generous portions, great service, memorable staff, and a menu full of hearty classics. Easy to recommend for locals and families.

We escaped for a Tuesday lunch date at Dave & Buster’s in Spokane Valley 😂💛

Tried the Eat & Play Combo, did a full food and drink review, explored the whole building, AND brought home flatbread for the kids. Hazel loved it. Killian refused because it was “too fancy.” 😂 Kids are wild.

If you want to know:
✔️ Is the combo worth it?
✔️ How’s the food?
✔️ Why were the bathrooms like THAT on a slow day?
✔️ And how long does 100 chips last?

Here’s the full honest breakdown 👇https://youtu.be/I1fAdAdHRWg

⭐ KALICO KITCHEN – FULL REVIEW

📍 1829 N Monroe St, Spokane, WA 99205

Kalico Kitchen is one of those classic Spokane breakfast spots that feels like stepping into a familiar diner from the early 2000s. It’s cozy, welcoming, and known for big portions, simple homestyle plates, and friendly service—and in my case, a waitress who somehow remembered me even though I haven’t been in for months!

---

🍽️ What I Ordered

⭐ Strawberry Waffle (my favorite)
Loaded with whipped cream and sweet strawberries — still one of the best in Spokane for a classic sweet breakfast.

⭐ Coffee
Simple diner coffee but good. They also have a surprisingly big list of specialty coffees (white chocolate, salted caramel mocha, toffee nut, etc.) and flavored syrups.

⭐ Sausage links
Classic, sweet-savory diner style. Solid.

Total Spent: $25.91

---

🍳 Food Quality

Kalico Kitchen shines in the “comfort breakfast” category:
✔ Homestyle shredded hash browns
✔ Big menu with waffles, pancakes, and country breakfast combos
✔ Lots of Benedict options
✔ Large list of flavored coffees and Lotus energy drinks
✔ Good balance between sweet breakfast and savory plates

Nothing fancy — but everything tastes like classic diner comfort.
Cleanliness

✔ Surfaces were clean
✔ Plates and table settings looked tidy
✔ Coffee mug was clean

Service

This was the standout part of the visit.
My server:

Remembered me from months ago

Remembered my usual order preferences

Friendly, warm, and attentive

Quick refills and fast service

Service Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5

⭐ Overall Rating (Solo Visit)
