LIONBERRY REGENERATIVE™ HYDRATION
There is a huge national conversation happening around GLP-1s, metabolic health, hydration, and gut health.
ELDERBERRY IS A FOOD WE GROW FERAL IN OUR DIRT
THIS IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE
THIS IS NOT A DRUG

ELDERBERRY researchers are beginning to study something unexpected: American elderberry.
A 2024 study from researchers at Washington State University explored how elderberry juice may influence the gut microbiome, glucose response, and fat oxidation through pathways connected to the body's own GLP-1 system.
The gut already produces GLP-1 naturally. This hormone plays a role in appetite signaling, digestion, blood sugar regulation, and metabolic function.
Researchers found that elderberry consumption was associated with changes in the gut microbiome and increased levels of beneficial short-chain fatty acids, compounds that are known to participate in signaling pathways connected to natural GLP-1 activity.
This is one reason American elderberry is drawing new scientific attention.
Not because it is a drug.
Not because it replaces medical care.
Not because it is a miracle.
But because food, the gut microbiome, and metabolic health are deeply connected.
The Heartland American Elderberry Collaborative has been attending conferences, research meetings, grower gatherings, and educational events across the Midwest because we believe American elderberry deserves serious scientific and agricultural attention.
As growers, researchers, educators, and value-added producers, we are interested in what happens when agriculture, nutrition, and science begin asking new questions about an overlooked native crop.
Food matters.
Farmers matter.
Science matters.
NOURISHING CHANGE MATTERS
And sometimes the most interesting discoveries start with a small purple berry growing in the Midwest.
