Congrats to Herb’s BBQ and Rubs for the GC and to all who heard their names called.

I would like to mention that all the winning teams donated their winnings back to the Seize the Moment Foundation. Congrats to all that did that!!!! Major Respect.

We will do another One Day Popup cook in two weeks at the New Port Richey Harley-Davidson dealership. Come join us. You can sign up on the Seize the Moment website. Categories will be chicken, chili and sauce. Come join the fun!!

Re: Resignation as President of FBA

I wanted to make a short post regarding my stepping down as FBA President this past Monday. In short, I felt that I did not have the support of the BOD and did not see a path forward without this support. This has been building since the beginning of the year. I am sorry if I let you down as it pains me that we have gotten here. The BOD dynamic was broken and I thought it would be best to allow the BOD to continue on its current path.

The events of Monday’s meeting was the culmination of a series of events that led me to step down. Without getting into a “who shot who” explanation, the following occurred. The Board was at a point in the Agenda where we were trying to fill a vacancy on the BOD. Certain members of the Board wanted to make a hasty appointment of a preferred person without considering any additional candidates from the membership. I was uncomfortable in this. As the administrative officer of the organization, I opened the selection process to the membership. We received responses from four candidates and I subsequently interviewed the four candidates. From my interviews, I ranked the four candidates in order of their qualifications and the value they would bring to the organization. I thought our BOD would really benefit from a fresh perspective and skill sets which the board does not currently possess. According to the By-Laws of the FBA, the President is to nominate a candidate for the vacancy and the Board is to approve the nomination. I nominated who I thought was the best candidate to fill the vacancy and the BOD withheld approval. I nominated the second candidate and once again the BOD withheld approval. At this time I realized the BOD was working on its own agenda and was not supportive of the actions of the President. The BOD was broken and divided. I, in good faith, advanced the best candidates from the candidate pool. The BOD wanted to go in a different direction.

This is why I stepped down. The BOD quit working together to move the organization forward and was working on a separate agenda. I wish them and the organization well.

Going Yard BBQ is in Greenwood SC this weekend for the 25th BBQ and Blues Festival of Discovery. Greenwood shuts down its Downtown allowing visitors and BBQ teams to take over the streets for what is one of the best BBQ competitions in the south.

We are locked and loaded for a wonderful contest especially with that Heath Riles BBQ championship line up on our chicken,ribs and pork program. Just look at that wonderful color on our ribs below. They hit the drum at 8 am.

We are set up for the 1st One Day Florida BBQ Association cookoff at the Tampa Harley Davidson dealership. Turn Ins include Burgers, Sauce and Dessert. Good Luck to all competing today.

This event is being put on by the QUE For A Cure foundation run by Roni-Kay Elser. We hope for a good day raising funds for her foundation.

Wheels up and headed home after a great BBQ weekend. Went to a BBQ class put on by Off The Chain BBQ. Chuck and Carrie did a great job and lots was learned, especially the lesson on cooking pork loin. It was truly a great pleasure learning from one of the best pork cooks in competition BBQ. Thanks for the wonderful weekend.

Going Yard competed in the Sizzle and Splash BBQ contest in Winter Springs this weekend. This was a Florida BBQ Association event and attended by some of the top teams in Florida BBQ.

The contest was in support of the Wesley Seth Foundation committed to Water Safety for children in the Central Florida region. Thank you Libby Baity for putting on this event.

Going Yard had a great day this weekend. Here is the tale of the tape.

Chicken: 2nd Place
Ribs: 2nd Place
Pork: 1st Place
Brisket 4th Place

Overall: Grand Champion

Congrats to Pop's Smoke on the Hill Competition BBQ Team for RGC. It is always a fun competition when you are in the field.

Also, Big Shout Out to Heath Riles BBQ on winning Memphis In May back to back. You are an inspiration and we are so proud to be associated with your brand. Going Yard BBQ is a brand ambassador for Heath Riles BBQ and we are proud to use their products in our program.

Also thanks to the Atlanta BBQ store for its support of our BBQ journey. I can always count on them to ship me all of the BBQ products that I use in time for every contest. I always order on a Sunday evening and my order shows up at the house by Wednesday. Thanks, Ellen for all you do.

We are going to take a few weeks off before our next event. Our next BBQ contest is at the South Carolina Festival of Discovery in Greenwood, SC in July. We also will be cooking the inaugural FBA one day contest in Tampa on June 13th. Come join us for a day of friendly cooking. Competition is for Burgers, Sauce and Dessert. It is going to be a fun event.

We traveled down to Auburndale this past weekend for the Pitmasters in Paradise BBQ contest at the Margaritaville resort. This was a first year sanctioned event. We had a great time and it was nice place to hold a BBQ event.

Our weekend finished as such:

Chicken -31st (ouch)
Ribs - 2nd
Pork - 6th
Brisket - 19th

Overall 15th out of 35 teams

Congrats to our good friends Double Barrel Smokers on their first GC and to Keepin’ It Smokin’ Competition BBQ on the RGC. Well done both of you.

Up next for us is a Florida BBQ Association contest in Winter Springs in 3 weeks.

Just a quick post from our weekend where we attended the Downtown Showdown BBQ Cook-Off in Lake City. I was solo ride again as Charlotte is still recovering from her shoulder injury and was unable to come with me. Sure miss her help on these cook weekends.

We started Friday night with a one-meat rib burn. We did well and finished 4th out of 21 teams who participated.

Saturday morning brought the normal contest and we started out well. The only notable change for us this contest is that we put the new Outlaw offset smoker into service. Boy, very impressed with its performance. It contributed to our success this weekend.

Tale of the tape:

Chicken 12th
Ribs 7th
Pork 17th
Brisket 3rd

Overall 4th with a 702.2860, with 41 teams in attendance. We had a good day.

Special thanks to those that help us on our BBQ journey. Heath Riles BBQ for those wonderful rubs and sauces, especially the Hot Honey Peach Glaze and Peach rub which made those Friday night ribs so good. Special thanks to The Atlanta BBQ Store which keeps us stocked up on rubs and sauces and other BBQ items which make our life easier.
