A U.S. U.S.

Hate speech will not be tolerated on this page. The following is from JewishVoiceForPeace.org:
Political Platform
Jewish Voice for Peace is a diverse and democratic community of activists inspired by Jewish tradition to work together for peace, social justice, and human rights. We support the aspirations of Israelis and Palestinians for security and self-determination. foreign policy based on promoting peace, democracy, human rights, and respect for international law
An end to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem
A resolution of the Palestinian refugee problem consistent with international law and equity
An end to all violence against civilians
Peace among the peoples of the Middle East
We are among the many American Jews who say to the U.S. and Israeli governments: "Not in our names!"
JVP supports peace activists in Palestine and Israel, and works in broad coalition with other Jewish, Arab-American, faith-based, peace and social justice organizations. FOR A CHANGE IN U.S. POLICY
Jewish Voice for Peace calls for a U.S. foreign policy that promotes democracy and human rights. The United States must stop supporting repressive policies in Israel and elsewhere. military aid to countries in the Middle East must be based on rigorous enforcement of the Arms Export Control and Foreign Assistance Acts, which mandate that military aid may be used for only defensive purposes within the recipient country's borders, and that aid may not be delivered to countries that abuse human rights. Under these guidelines, U.S. military aid to Israel must be suspended until the occupation ends, since the occupation itself is in violation of these guidelines. Military aid allows Israel to avoid making serious efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as well as conflicts with its other neighbors. It enables the occupation, contributes to the devastation of Palestinian society and fosters the increasing militarization of Israeli society. JVP also calls for suspension of military aid to other human rights abusers and occupiers in the Middle East. This aid helps prop up autocratic and repressive regimes, promotes violations of human rights and international law, obstructs democratic movements, prolongs the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and fosters militarism and violence at home and abroad. FOR PALESTINIAN-ISRAELI PEACE
Israelis and Palestinians have the right to security, sovereignty, and self-determination within political entities of their own choosing. Israel must end its occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem, completely withdraw from these Occupied Territories and relinquish all its settlements, military outposts and by-pass roads. Jerusalem has to be shared in a manner that reflects its spiritual, economic, and political importance to both Israelis and Palestinians, as well as to all Jews, Muslims and Christians. The plight of Palestinian refugees needs to be resolved equitably and in a manner that promotes peace and is consistent with international law. Within the framework of an equitable agreement, the refugees should have a role in determining their future, whether pursuing return, resettlement, or financial compensation. Israel should recognize its share of responsibility for the ongoing refugee crisis and for its resolution. The parties must equitably distribute water and other natural resources. Diplomatic negotiations between the two parties must be held unconditionally. Countries other than the U.S. should be involved in peace negotiations. An international peacekeeping force should be established to protect all civilians. FOR HUMAN RIGHTS
All people of the Middle East deserve the right to democratic participation and equality within their societies, regardless of religion, ethnicity, culture, national origin, language, race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, or other status. Israel must cease its use of military force against Palestinian civilians, including attacks involving American-supplied F-16s and Apache helicopters. Moreover, Israel must stop land seizures; destruction of homes, infrastructure, orchards and farms; arbitrary arrests and imprisonment; torture; assassinations; expulsions; curfews; travel restrictions; abuse at checkpoints; raids; collective punishment; and other violations of human rights. Palestinians must stop suicide bombings and other attacks on Israeli civilians. The international community must support Palestinian efforts to promote democracy and human rights, while understanding that this aim cannot be fully achieved under occupation. Racism and bigotry cannot be tolerated, whether in the U.S. or abroad, whether against Arabs or against Jews.

Slide 1: Six weeks ago, prominent St. Louis rabbi Jeffrey Abraham openly shared on social media his dehumanizing, genocidal thoughts about Palestinian people. He “completely agreed” with likening Palestinians to “animals”. He asserted that there are “no innocent civilians” among the over 2 million inhabitants of Gaza. He said that all “Palestinians need to be re-educated.” During those six weeks there has been total silence from the leadership of establishment St. Louis Jewish organizations on the rabbi’s behavior.

Slide 2: After weeks of condemnation from individuals and groups like the Islamic Fundation of Greater St. Louis and Progressive Jews of St. Louis, members of St. Louis Jewish Voice for Peace delivered letters to the board and staff of the St. Louis Jewish Federation and the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum, expressing our deep frustrations with these events.

Slide 3: Umbrella organizations like the Jewish Federation provide financial resources to Rabbi Abraham's congregation as well as to numerous institutions whose mission is to further the agenda of Zionism. Rabbi Abraham, like Trump, has merely said the quiet part out loud and the silence surrounding it has been a clear endorsement.

Slide 4: We denounce the racist ideology of Rabbi Abraham – a man who frequently claims to speak for the St. Louis Jewish community on local media outlets. The Jewish community must have a zero-tolerance policy towards such language which treats human life as cheap and disposable- the same unconscionable impulse that led to the slaughter of our ancestors.

Join Progressive Jews of St. Louis and St. Louis Jewish Voice for Peace this Monday as we mark one year since October 7, 2023 and a new year (5785) in the Jewish calendar. In practicing the Jewish ritual of Tashlich, where we cast off our sins and burdens into water, we will mourn for the lives lost in the genocidal response to Al Aqsa Flood, and commit to individual and collective action for a free Palestine and collective liberation. We will reclaim our grief that has too long been used as a justification for genocide.
When: October 7, 2024, 5:30-6:45pm.
Where: The Cascades at Forest Park
What: We will be practicing a ritual that will include singing, praying, and intrapersonal and communal reflection. All are welcome.
-Please bring a stone or small natural object that you are willing to part with.
-Please wear a mask (we will have plenty of extras).
-Please stay home if you are feeling unwell.
Accessibility: Parking right beside event site. Might need to walk further if parking is full closer. Feel free to let us know if you have an issue or any questions about access needs.

From “For Times Such As These,” by Rabbis Ariana Katz and Jessica Rosenberg on Tashlich: "....through the ritual of collective tashlich we can transform our individual burdens into collective responsibility. When we come together to name the harms of the Israeli occupation, settler colonialism on Turtle Island, racism and white supremacy, mass incarceration and policing, climate degradation and wealth hoarding, it becomes clear that none of us can possibly hold all of this on our own. We do collective tashlich to take collective responsibility for the overwhelming hurt and harm in our world. We commit together to working to avoid the practices, patterns and worldviews that constrict and harm. We publicly commit to, in the new year, striving lovingly to practice something different.”

Three days ago the United States filed charges against Hamas for the killing of American citizens.

Today the Israeli military killed a United States citizen - Aysenur Eygi - just as it has killed many US citizens, including Shireen Abu Akleh, Furkan Dogan and Rachel Corrie. It is important to note that while eyewitnesses state that she was intentionally assassinated with a bullet to the head, the exact details of what happen are many ways unimportant. Eygi was in the Israeli occupied West Bank at an anti-settlement protest. Under both international law and according to US policy all settlements in the West Bank are illegal. There is no legitimate reason for Israeli forces to be anywhere near where Eygi was, much less shoot and kill her.

There was never any justice for the killers of Shireen Abu Akleh, Furkan Dogan, or Rachel Corrie. Will their be any consequences for the killers of Aysenur Eygi?

It is proper policy for the US government to oppose the killing of Americans by Hamas. It is also proper policy for the US government to oppose the killing of Americans by the Israeli government. There is a big difference between the two, in that the United States does not give Hamas weapons while the United States gives Israel an enormous amount of weapons. Our county directly funded the killing of American citizen Aysenur Eygi. Unlike with Israel, the United States has never referred to Hamas as "the only democracy in the Middle East". Unlike with Binyamin Netanyahu, Yayha Sinwar has never been invited to address Congress and receive standing ovations. He is actually named in the recent American lawsuit - why is there not a similar suit against Netanyahu and the other Israeli leaders who have enacted policies that kill Americans?

The United States needs to stop giving Israel the weapons that it uses to kill Americans, along with tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians. Immediately. American citizens need to be treated equally by our government. The genocide of the Palestinian people needs to end and Americans who oppose that genocide are also Americans worthy of protection by our government.

A 26-year-old American activist, Aysenur Eygi, has been shot and killed during an anti-settlement protest near Nablus, in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, according to US and Palestinian officials.

This week, we in St. Louis Jewish Voice for Peace, honor the legacy and life of Mike Brown Jr., who was ruthlessly murdered by police officer Darren Wilson ten years ago. His death—and the Ferguson uprising that followed—forever changed our communities and the political landscape of St. Louis.

As Jews committed to a world without state violence, policing, militarization, and white supremacy, we see police brutality in St. Louis as one arm of US global oppression, just as we see the US-backed genocide in Gaza as part of the same imperial project. In an era when Jewish leaders have criminalized Black-Palestine solidarity, invoking our name in vain by calling joint struggle “anti-Semitic,” we reject and see Zionism for what it is—a colonial, racist project that trades in tactics of policing and criminalization here at home and in Palestine. We forever stand in solidarity with the family of Mike Brown, the Ferguson organizers who changed St. Louis and the world, and Palestinians calling for their own liberation.

The legislative body of the State of Israel voted to definitively oppose a two-state solution that grants Palestinians a state. Anywhere, of any size or type. 68 to 9 in a 120 person body.

Note that "centrist" Benny Gantz supported the measure. Opposition leader Yair Lapid was too much of a coward to vote against it and led his party out of the Knesset to skip the vote. So only 9 out of 120 members are willing to put themselves on record in support of a Palestinian state.

The status quo is second class citizenship for Palestinians citizens of Israel, direct Apartheid and increasing dispossession for Palestinians in the West Bank, genocide for Palestinians in Gaza, and permanent expulsion with no right of return for Palestinians in the rest of the world. The resolution did not say it would ameliorate the injustices of the status quo instead of granting a state. Rather, it accepted the racist status quo and reiterated that no steps would be taken to change the status quo.

The United States has said that it wants a two state solution. It has been saying this for decades. But these have always been hollow words - never more absurd than right now. If America keeps giving aid and diplomatic support to this country that has definitively told us that it won't work with America and Palestinians to grant them a state - what is this? What is going on? Can we stop pretending? Can we drop this farce? Can the leadership of the most powerful country on earth stop its habit of being humiliated by the leadership of Israel?

Binyamin Netanyahu is a problem but he is not THE problem. The entire political system in Israel is oriented towards Jewish supremacy and the rejection of Palestinian rights. Supporting this state diplomatically and militarily is wrong and needs to end immediately.

The Biden administration received another rebuff from Israel Wednesday night – this time from the country’s parliament – over the United States’ long-standing support for the eventual establishment of a Palestinian state.

This is the mass murder and starvation of millions of people including over and over the deliberate sniping of little children. Israel is behaving in an insane manner. This is being done with American weapons and American support in the name of the Jewish people. Palestinians have just as much of a right to live as all of us.

Do not look away from this crime. We are all responsible and it needs to end immediately.

As a surgeon, I volunteered at a Gaza hospital. The conditions were unthinkable. With a ground offensive in Rafah, people have nowhere to go.

Cori Bush is right: Ceasefire now is the only moral choice!

A broad coalition of St. Louis organizations, clergy and voters support Rep. Bush’s leadership in calling for an end to the killing in Gaza.

A ceasefire is necessary to save lives and address the humanitarian catastrophe that is underway in Gaza. Israel’s pursuit of aerial bombardment, siege, and forced population movement policies that many experts say constitute war crimes and the intent of genocide is leading to an apocalyptic loss of life.

We refuse to allow grief to be used as a weapon of war or a justification for the murder of children and innocent people.
