🪕 BI-STATE BLUEGRASS IS BUILDING SOME NEW TOOLS! 🎶

I’ve been working on two things I’m really excited about (thanks to Jon Schmuke):

📅 Shared Bluegrass Jam & Event Calendar
A central place to find bluegrass jams, events, workshops, festivals, and other opportunities to pick, listen, learn, and connect across the Missouri–Illinois area.

🎸 Bi-State Bluegrass Musician Directory
I’m also putting together a directory to help musicians connect with other pickers, find people to jam with, and hopefully create more opportunities for gigs, jams, festivals, teaching, and collaboration.

I’m looking for a few guinea pigs 🐹😂 to take a look at both and give me some honest feedback before I roll them out more widely.

What works?
What doesn’t?
What would you like to see added?
Is anything confusing or difficult to use?

If you’re willing to help me test them out, drop a comment or shoot me a message and I’ll get you the info.

The goal is simple: make it easier for bluegrass people to find each other and find places to play.

🪕 A SONG I’VE BEEN WORKING ON FOR YEARS… 🎶

I first heard this song at the Missouri Area Bluegrass Committee played in the hallway a few year’s ago, and immediately thought, I want to learn that!

The problem? I wasn’t nearly skilled enough to play it when I first heard it. So I started working on it—and over time, with A LOT of practice, my playing progressed to the point where I could start picking up the song piece by piece.

For months, my instructor Chris at the The Bluegrass Shack would send me home playing this song painfully slow over and over again so I could really learn exactly where each note was. 😂

I’d finally get Part A down… and then Part B needed more work. Then Part B would start coming together… and Part A needed attention again. This went on for months!

But eventually, the pieces started coming together, and this is where I’ve landed with it so far.

I’m excited to keep working on it, clean it up, and eventually start finding some variations and making it my own.

Proof that sometimes you just have to slow it way down, stick with it, and keep picking. 🪕🎶

Thanks again to Chris for the patience and for helping me get this one from “I want to learn that” to actually being able to play it.
