An unforgettable evening at the winery. We had the pleasure of hosting friends for a special wine pairing experience featuring our 2023 vintage, each thoughtfully matched with dishes crafted to complement every sip.

Our 2023 Chardonnay opened the night, paired with Ravioli Gigantico made with tie-dyed spinach and egg yolk dough, filled with ricotta, Pecorino Romano, smoked gouda, and black garlic. It was finished in a citrus butter cream sauce and garnished with cured egg yolk.

Next came the 2023 Cabernet Franc, served alongside steak frites au poivre et thé. The dish featured a rich sauce of caramelized onion, cherries, and blackberries, accompanied by fried mashed potatoes, spiced strawberry ketchup, and pickled mustard seed caviar.

We closed the evening with the 2023 Rosé, paired with roasted and caramelized pear, honey, ginger and rosemary ice cream, olive oil cake crumble, gingersnaps, and savory rosemary lavender whipped cream.

Cheers to good friends, great food, and wines that tell a story. Until the next pour.

Harvest is here and it's keeping us on our toes!

This week, we brought in our Albarino and our Chardonnay! After a rainy season, we couldn't be happier seeing them pressed, and in the winery beginning their journey.

In true harvest fashion, nothing goes entirely as planned. The evening before our first pick an underground electeic wire to our well pump failed. If you have worked in or visited wineries you probably know that sanitation is key and water is our lifeline.

Thankfully, we have D**e Buiders on our team. As soon as we realized we didn't have water, they were on site to diagnose. They had us hooked back up and running before the first picking bin came in the next morning. We are so grateful to them. Because of their help, we are still pressing forward (pun intended!)

We are also so thankful for Tinder Cattle & Vineyard whose hard working crews brought in our grapes. The crews were on site and picking with the sunrise. We quadrupled our Albarino yield from last year and doubled our Chardonnay. We are so pleased with our vines, which are now in their fifth leaf and showing us their potential. We look forward to our reds coming in soon. Fingers crossed we continue to experience this good hanging weather.

Cheers to a successful harvest and the 2025 vintage.

Nothing says celebration like popping the first bottle of your own wine.

Yesterday, the very first R Kohls wines were bottled — a moment we have been working toward since our vines were planted in 2021.

As a new, small family winery, this is especially sweet for us. From vineyard to glass, each drop has been shaped by hours of learning, tending, and love.

What has made this truly special is our vineyard family—our volunteers who have weathered the seasons with us. You've planted, pruned, laughed, and labored with us, and now you have bottled right by our side. Thank you for helping us turn this dream into beautifully crafted (and now bottled!) wines.

A special, heartfelt thank you to our consultant, Jake. He took a small family crew that lacked experience in grape growing and winemaking and guided us with patience, knowledge, and a calm demeanor that turned chaos into craft. Jake has shaped the way we approach each decision in the vineyard and winery. He has not only taught us the craft but has given us the confidence to grow in it. We are endlessly grateful.

So, here's to the first of many bottles. We can't wait to share them with you!

Big News!

On Monday, August 25th, we’ll be bottling our first vintage—a milestone for our vineyard!

We’d love your help on this special day. If you’re interested in volunteering (and seeing how wine makes the journey from barrel to bottle), reach out to Lauren A Kohls.

It’s hands-on, lively work—plus good food and even better company.

A cazy gust of wind came through the property last night during the storms. Check out what happened to our fence and gate! The wind blew patio furniture far into the vineyard, but fortunately the vineyard itself didn't see any damage.

Today, we are tracking our sugar levels, by doing some Brix testing in our vineyard blocks! Check in throughout the day to see our process!

By measuring brix, we estimate the sugar content of our grapes, with each degree of Brix equaling 1 gram of sugar per 100ml of juice. This helps us in gauging how ripe the berries are and is used along with testing acidity to plan and schedule our harvest. It is also used at harvest to estimate the potential alcohol content for our new wine.

To do this, we start by collecting grapes from random vines across each of our vineyard blocks. We try to make sure this sample will be representative of our harvest, so we take grapes from random vines on each row and various places on each vine and cluster. We collect the grapes into bags and get ready to juice them!

Stay tuned for more videos as we complete the process!

Hey Farm Family,

So happy you have joined us! We are excited to connect with you all, and to share the ups, downs, and things we learn along the way here at the vineyard and winery!

As of now, the vineyard is finishing up verasion. This is an exciting time for us as grapes soften, color changes, and sugars accumulate as we enter the final stretch before harvest!

Huge thanks to Tinder Cattle & Vineyard, whose crew is at the heart of much of our vineyard work. With sugar levels on the rise, they are carefully raising bird netting across our vineyard blocks to protect the clusters from hungry wildlife.

Check out videos of them in action, along with a photo of a bird nest we found tucked among the vines. While we'll continue spraying for disease as needed for crop health, we are taking care to shield this nest from exposure, and allow mom access so they stay safe!

Stay tuned - more vineyard updates coming soon, including sugar testing, canopy care, and final preparations for harvest.

Tucked in the Shenandoah foothills, this dream has taken root—one vine, one bottle, one season at a time.

We’re a small, family-run winery built on love, labor, and the land itself.

Every bottle begins here, in soil rich with stories and vines that stretch toward the sun.

With Harvest 2025 around the corner, the rhythm of the season stirs— felcos ready, lugs waiting, grapes blushing on the vine.

Whether you're here to learn how fruit becomes wine or returning as one of our seasoned volunteers, we’re so grateful you’ve found your way to our page.

Follow along for a glimpse into the beauty (and mess!) of harvest—how we pick, press, and prepare. We’ll be sharing volunteer practice days, behind-the-scenes moments, and all the joy this season brings.

From our family to yours—welcome to the journey.

Enjoy these photos from last season while you are here!
