Pearson's Town Farm Pearson's Town Farm is an organic farm associated with Saint Joseph's College of Maine. We raise organic vegetables and grass fed meats.

We have vegetables ranging from radishes and rutabagas to tomatoes and eggplant to lettuces and broccoli and herbs. We also raise Southdown sheep, with a llama named Amall to guard them in the pasture; meat and milking goats; chickens; ducks; Thanksgiving turkeys; rabbits; and alpacas. We run a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) for 16 weeks from June to October. We participate some years in lo

cal farmer's markets. We also provide some food to Pearson's Cafe at SJC and to Catherine's Cupboard, a local food pantry. We work with local elementary and high schools and the community, discussing and helping them start school and community gardens.

Meet Farmer Tony!

During the school year, he is fondly known as Dr G, but during the summer, he transforms into a true farmer! This year, he adopted two of our Community Garden plots and tried out his own garden for the first time.

With the help of Dr Sue Kelly, he grew quite a large quantity of tomatoes, kale, cabbage, giant kohlrabi (which he shared with Farmer Alyssa for her birthday!), beans, carrots, beets, hot peppers, strawberries, and sage!

He stated that the hardest part of having his own garden was planting the tiny seeds and weeding (he's not wrong...)!! The best part was seeing the other Farmers every day!

When he wasn't spending time with his family, doing his usual work at St Joe's or farming with Pearson's Town, he volunteered his time at Riding to the Top in Windham.

We're glad you had such a great harvest this year Farmer Tony and we hope to get you out again next year!

This may seem like a funny poster, but one of our sheep, Sampson, has gone missing. Sampson is a year and a half, intact male Southdown sheep. He vaguely resembles a muppet, he weighs about 54 pounds, and sports a faded red collar. He is very friendly and may answer when you call him. He loves green beans and cabbage.
Sampson was last seen on Monday, August 15, around 5:15 pm and was noticed missing on Tuesday, August 16, around 10 am. We've searched the entire property from the pasture to the woods to the vegetable fields to the leech fields and have seen no sign of him.
If anyone has spotted him or has any information, please call Saint Joseph's College Campus Safety at 207-893-6687 or email [email protected].
Please share! We love Sampson and want him back!!

For those of you who don't know what this alien looking vegetable is, it's called kohlrabi. A member of the broccoli family, kohlrabi is a traditional veggie in Eastern Europe. Use the leaves like cabbage. They are also good cut and sautéed with butter and garlic.

To use the bulb, peel away the skin. The bulb is sweet and mild and in reality, tastes just like a broccoli stem, the texture just a little softer than a raw potato. It is the most versatile vegetable around. Eat it raw in salad or dice it for soups, omelets, or stir fries. Try it with the leaves sautéed with butter and garlic, or slice it and add it to potatoes au gratin. It is also great in any sort of casserole or pot pie. Try it today from Pearson's Town Farm!
