And just like that we are SOLD OUT of lamb. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported our little farm this year! If you tried our lamb and loved it, feel free to reach out about our whole and half lamb boxes! We have several of those available at our next butcher date, which is December 31st of this year. In the meantime, we'll keep bringing you our honey, baked goods, jams, produce, etc. We're planning on being there all of the remaining markets through the end of the season, which is October 31st.

Putting our sheep out in a new-to-them pasture has come with its challenges. We've run into some very weedy parts with plants that are toxic for livestock, in particular sheep. In very small amounts these plants won't cause too much harm, but if eaten in large amounts they can be fatal. While sheep generally avoid them, because of our stocking density I didn't want to take any chances. This has involved a lot of hand weeding, but the sheep are thriving. These are our main culprits from left to right: toothed spurge, nodding spurge, whirled milkweed, and common milkweed. All of them are easily identified by their milky sap, which carries some of the toxins that can become dangerous for livestock.

We are so grateful for the rain! Just a few weeks ago it was looking like we might have to feed hay the rest of the grazing season, but just look at that green grass! The sheep are pretty happy, too!

Last weekend was pedicure day for our sheep! The flock is growing, so hopefully this will be the last year we will do this without a tipping table. Whoever thinks sheep are sweet, calm, and cuddly all the time has never hoof trimmed!

The bees know it's hot out! In an effort to cool the hive bees will hang out the front entrance to allow for more ventilation in the hive. They can also fan their wings to help create airflow. When they cluster like this on the front of the hive it is called "bearding."

Our first little honey harvest is in the books! I'll be busy hand bottling tonight to bring some to market tomorrow. Limited supply, so be sure you come snag yours!
