One thing I never would have considered when we bought a farm was fruit trees.

Even though these trees were already established here before we ever arrived, I never really thought much about having them. Now, here we are—picking the harvest from our own little piece of land. This is just what we brought in tonight!

We have pears, apples, cherries, and grapes that all grow right here on the farm. Most years, the cows and horses get to enjoy the majority of the harvest, but every now and then we manage to pick some for ourselves.

It’s funny how living on a farm changes the things you appreciate. Something I never thought I’d care about has become one of those little things that makes this place feel like home.

Sometimes the farm has a funny way of reminding you what actually matters. You can work yourself to the bone trying to make everything happen, but at the end of the day, there’s only so much one person can do. Sometimes you just need to slow down and remember that.

You can care. You can show up. You can give it your all. But you don’t have to carry everything.

Give yourself permission to step back before you burn yourself out. Take a moment to enjoy what you have around you, and remember that stepping back isn’t giving up. It’s recognizing your limits, protecting your peace, and understanding that not everything is yours to fix.

Do what you can. Give what you can. And when you’ve given enough, let yourself rest. 🤎

One thing we can say for certain is that we have a pretty damn great community surrounding us.

We couldn’t have asked for a better place to lay down our roots, build our lfarm, and try to raise good quality beef. Our neighbors continuously invite us in, include us, and treat us like one of their own. The farmers around us are kind, welcoming, and beyond helpful — always willing to lend a hand, even when we landed a flat tire on the trailer, or point us in the right direction.

Today we spent the day bringing home hay for the animals. Unfortunately, with the drought, our hay field didn’t yield nearly as much as we had hoped. So, we adapt, we hustle, and we bring home what we can. That’s farming, I guess.

But aside from the hay crop, you really can’t put a price on the people who surround you. We may not have gotten the hay crop we wanted this year, but we sure feel lucky to have the people around us who make the hard days a little easier.

Here’s to good neighbors, hardworking farmers, and the people who make a place feel like home.

Farming because starving sucks. 🐂

Almost considering naming this one after Dolly Parton. Truly an inspiration to all and dearly will be missed in this world.
