We are blooming with new life here on the homestead. These are some of our adorable Rainbow eggers that hatched over the weekend. From left to right are:
•Lavender Ameraucana from the Who's Your Daddy pen (roosters are Lavender Ameraucana, Easter Egger, Cream Legbar, Welsummer, and Salmon Faverolle), but based on the coloring, legs, and toes, my bet is on the Easter Egger rooster Hulk who is half Lavender Ameraucana and Half Plymouth Blue Rock.
•Splash Silverrudd (pure)
•Easter Egger (Americana Easter Egger mom with what appears to be a Cream Legbar dad)
•Ice Cream Bar (Silverudd rooster over a Cream Legbar hen. The cockerels are born with a white spot on their heads and the pullets are not, so this one is a pullet.)
•Heavy Bloom Fava-blend (Hatched this big adorable baby out of a tiny pink egg (49g) that I only tossed into the incubator because of the color. It looks like it is either a Faverolle/Welsummer or Faverolle/Cream Legbar cross, and I can't wait to see how it grows.
While we have our pure lines that we breed, sell, and hatch, we often attempt fun little projects just for our own learning as we homeschool. We study feather patterning and egg color genes and even temperaments. By far, the most friendly hens we have are the Faverolles so adding a few Favaucanas and Favabars to our flock in our Rainbow pen has been a goal this year.
What are some of your favorite crazy crosses that you have done and loved?
