Does anyone have recommendations for credible charities for hurricane relief donations where 100% of donations go to victims? Specifically for North Carolina/ Tennessee/ Virginia relief efforts.

This is about all there is do do as far as work on the farm right now. It’s so dry there aren’t many weeds to spray and what is there is so stressed that the spray won’t kill it. A lot of what we would normally do is on hold. There is a danger that I can watch this pivot run and think I’m in control, that even if it doesn’t rain it’ll be ok. While that is true, it’s not because of irrigation water. Most of our fields have no irrigation, and even the ones that do aren’t entirely irrigated. There are dry corners, and in them in a lot of fields there is no cotton. Our influence and ability to control anything stops where the end gun stops. Without God’s provision there is no life. He will provide for us even if the crops do poorly due to this drought. But we can’t do it without God. No matter how many pivots we have there will always be the dry corners to remind us who’s really in control.

Thanks to Grice Connect for this well written article! I would also like to thank the folks from the state for coming to listen, Toby Connor for organizing the event, and all the farmers who took the afternoon off at such a busy time to come and show support for our industry. What we don’t need to happen is for in 20 years someone to find this article in an archive and say “Wow, people used to farm here?” Even though there aren’t that many of us, we allow everyone in Bulloch County to have the quality of life they desire by utilizing Bulloch County’s abundant farmland for a positive economic impact while keeping it rural. Agriculture creates jobs and feeds the local economy without rezoning, subdivisions, or asphalt.

Farmers took time away from a busy harvest to address their concerns over the Hyundai Meta Plant and suppliers locating in Bulloch County, which is creating huge issues for farmers and our valuable ag industry.

Peanut pickin’ time! 🥜

So cool...we can dig up the plants and flip them over without hurting the peanuts (to dry for a few days)

Then we can pick with a machine that can separate the nuts from the vines (again, no peanuts damaged!)

Then the vines that are left can be baled into hay and fed to the cows.

Y’all. This is POWERFUL.

“As Americans we’re all in this fight together to leave the world a better place. And part of leaving the world a better place is leaving our children a safe, abundant, and secure food supply for the future. If we export that to other countries and we become dependent of other countries for our food supply, then we’re leaving our children less safe than we were.

And shame on us if we allow that to happen”

Communicating why we do what we do as farmers is hard. It’s not necessarily our strength. But regardless of what the media has to say, we care tremendously. Let’s all do a better job of listening to each other.
