Gluten Free Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies

I recently made something for my most important client (my wife): gluten free peanut butter blossom cookies. They turned out pretty good and got a decided thumbs up.

These are the same as the regular wheat kind, but it's made gluten free.

A full batch of about 4 dozen runs $20. If I have some singles lying around and you want just a few, I'd sell a dozen at $7.

Message me if interested. Happy to arrange pickup or drop off in Sterling.

Sweet Corn Muffins or cornbread, regular and gluten free

The word sweet in the name is doing double duty here:

For the muffins, these are cakey and sweet corn muffins ready to be put with barbecue or to have at the breakfast table. There is also locally-grown sweet corn in the muffin itself.

The corn bread, also has locally-grown sweet corn in it, but it's not the northern sweet cornbread. There is a touch of sugar (and sweet from the corn kernels), but this is closer to a southern style corn bread. I bake it in my 12" cast iron skillet so you can cut it to wedges and enjoy that crispy underside.

Either one has a full corn flavor and they both freeze well.

If you're open, I have a couple serving suggestions.

Try either with maple butter or (and try it before you doubt it), slather on some apricot jam. I was skeptical about the apricot, but now corn + apricot is one of my favorite flavor combinations.

A giant 12" cornbread or a dozen muffins costs $24 dollars and is subject to my store of sweet corn. If you want gluten free, there is a $2 upcharge to cover the GF flour.

THANKS TO ALL WHO MESSAGED! SOLD OUT

Golden raspberry, fresh figs, silver watermelons

My small (and not so small in the case of the watermelon) fruits are coming ripe.

As it sits now, I'm starting to gather:

--Golden raspberries. These are raspberries but nowhere near as sour. There's a little tart, but it's balanced by a fruity sweetness. These are great for eating out of hand (I struggle to get them all in when I pick) or on cereal. Amounts available depend on production, $1 for a half cup of berries.

--Fresh figs: my fig trees are starting to produce in earnest. Depending on timing I might have Chicago Hardy variety, Brown Turkey, or Violet De Bordeaux. 50 cents per fig. As with the raspberries, quantities depend on timing.

--Silver watermelon. This is a seeded, white/silver flesh watermelon that is exceptionally sweet and juicy. Got limited quantities available. Right now a big(ish) one is ready to pick. $4.

Message me here if interested. I live in Sterling and am happy to arrange pick up at either my home or the college (where I work).

Pineapple Jalapeno Relish

I wanted to have another relish to offer besides my charred onion relish, so after trying some recipes, I'm proud to offer a jalapeno pineapple relish.

Despite the name, this one is actually a puppy dog. I put in 6 jalapenos, but took out almost all the ribs and seeds, leaving behind that wonderful fresh, green, vegetal taste fresh jalapenos have.

It has some heat yes, but only a little bit at the back of the bite.

Other than that it has the sweet taste of pineapple along with some sour from the pickle they're in.

It will go well on sausages, but also with any sort of meat that works and plays well with sweet, grilled pork chops for example.

I have pints and half pints. $8 for the pint, $4 for the half.

If you'd like to try before committing. I have some you are welcome to come and try.

Happy to arrange pickup or drop off in Sterling. Message me here if interested.

Burger Sauce Recipe

I am here to sell you some of my pickles and relishes for your Labor Day grilling, but I will give you my favorite quick burger sauce recipe (whether you use my relish or not).

Burger Sauce Recipe

3 parts mayo
1 part ketchup
2/3 part relish

You can scale this up or down as you like. You could use Tablespoons or cups. For example, mix 3 Tbsp mayo, 1 Tbsp ketchup, 2 tsp relish.

Once you have this base mixed up in a bowl, make it your own.

Want it spicy? Add red pepper flake or cayenne. Want it a little sweeter? Add a touch of sugar.

A bit of Worcestershire is not uncalled for either.

If you want a great relish to use for your sauce, I recommend my charred onion relish. The burger sauce is good with any relish of your choice, but this relish will make it great. $8 for a pint, $4 for a half pint.

I'm also offering homemade and homegrown dill pickles, bread and butter pickles, and roasted peppers/onions. Each of those are in pints and are $7. Spicy or regular on the pickles.

Bread and butters are another of my favorite additions to a cheeseburger (along with the sauce) and I love the peppers on grilled Italian sausage.

Smores Bar Cookies Regular and Gluten Free

Smores are best done on the fire.
There's no way to capture the taste and company you get when you and friends sit around a fire making them and immediately gobbling them up.

I'm not going to tell you my cookies are better than sitting around the fire making smores. But for those times when you can't make them for real (or don't want to), these cookies will get you as close as possible to the real thing. The nice part is that these cookies can feed a crowd those great summer flavors without all the hassle or wait.

I start with a graham cracker base, top them with chocolate, then a layer of marshmallow. I brown them off in the oven to give them the toasty flavor and garnish with some finely chopped chocolate.

A full recipe makes 16 2" x 2" bars for $20. If I happen to have some singles, I'll sell them for $2 each.

If you want gluten free, there is a $3 upcharge for the batch to pay for the gluten free grahams and flour.

Charred Onion Relish

This has got to be one of my more popular items. Small wonder when it taste this good!

I start with red onions and char them in the oven. When I say char, I mean it. I go til there are blackened spots and the onions have reduced down by about half. I then add chopped cucumber and spices.

It’s slightly sweet, a little hot, and just a little smoky from the char on the onions. You will love this on sausages, hot dogs, and burgers.

Couple pro tips? Make your own burger sauce by combining some ketchup, mayo, relish, and salt. Great on burgers, but also great to dip fries in! Or, for a quick dinner, cook up some frozen chicken strips, put them on hamburger buns with cheese, mayo, and a spoonful of this relish for a fast and delicious sandwich.

$8 for a pint jar, $4 for half pint.

Vanilla Biscotti -- Regular or Gluten Free

Before anything else, I just wanted to add a quick note: I sell the singles at 50 cents each, Marketplace doesn't allow for partial dollars.

After a recent test batch (and a thumbs up from my wife), I'm offering gluten free vanilla biscotti.

If you'd like (and it's a dollar less since the ingredients are cheaper), I can also make these with wheat flour.

Either way, this is one of coffee's favorite sidekicks. I make mine with real butter, vanilla, and just a hint of almond flavor. Then I top them with some sparkling sugar for pretty. They'll happily keep on the counter for weeks, but once you have one, I doubt keeping them for weeks will be a problem.

If I have some singles hanging around, I'm happy to sell them for 50 cents each.

If you want a full batch (about 24 cookies), I'll give a price break and sell the wheat version for $9 for a full batch and the gluten free for $10.

Each is about 1/2" wide and 3 1/4" long, though there is some variation (some longer, some shorter).

I can also customize the recipe if you have a particular flavor in mind. The traditional Italian version has a little anise and fennel seed, or I can add some combo of dried fruits and/or nuts. Let me know what you're thinking and let's talk options.

Breads Gluten Free and Regular

I had a couple off-menu customer requests this week and it got me thinking.

If you like good bread, whether it's fancy or homey, whether it's wheat or gluten free, message me and let's talk.

Bread baking is for me as much hobby as business and I've been doing it a long time.

Want rustic baguettes like these with an open and airy crumb inside a crisp crust? I can do that.

Want a gluten free cinnamon raisin swirl bread? I can do that.

If you've got something you've always wanted to try but can't find up here, let me see what I can do.

Message me here and let's talk.
