One of the best things about having chickens is there’s almost no food waste! Whenever we have something that leaves a lot of grease, like hamburger or steak, I soak up all the oil using dried oatmeal. This gives the chickens a good fatty snack, and keeps that junk out of my trash.

 Today I took the girls the leftovers from Mark’s birthday dinner. Angelica, our saucy Rhode Island Red, didn’t even wait for me to call them. She jumped up INTO the frying pan and started chowing down i had to swat her with the spoon to get her to move on.

Thanks to Mary we have a new addition to our flock. Meet Hedwig who has been with us 2 whole days.

When she joined the flock she was little nervous at first but by bedtime she tossed one of the younger girls aside to get her preferred spot. Today she came outside for free time.

The weather is decent so the ladies get to leave their yard and come into my yard.
