We moved out to the farm Fall 2014, then 18 days later had our 4th child. The following spring we planted 20 fruit trees, got 30 chickens for eggs and raised our first batch of meat chickens (30). We use organic feed, the layers free range, and the meat birds are raised on pasture in portable shelters that I move daily.
2015 was a clean up year, we tore down the old silo, the broken tv antenna,
started a perimeter fence, and started to clean out the barn. In 2016 we filled a 30 yard dumpster of metal from around the farm. We raised about 150 meat birds(we sell more than we eat), and started on farm butchering and packaging. We currently sell whole birds for $3.90 per lb and eggs for $4.00 a doz. I grew up "in town" and knew nothing of animal care or farms. By listening to people like Joel Salatin, John Suscovich, the Grass Whisper, and countless others on you-tube and friends I have learned how to provide chemical free eggs and chicken for my family and others. I plan on adding turkeys and pigs this year, and hopefully some cattle next year. We ask for a $5 deposit per chicken. We will have 2 batches a spring and a fall batch. After the deposits are filled it first come first serve.
