. It really did take a village. I am extremely grateful and humbled to have experienced a healthy pregnancy and delivery of our son, Mikko. With help from my diabetes educator, Jennifer Smith with , I worked relentlessly through my pregnancy to maintain non-diabetic range blood sugar which was extremely demanding, exhausting, and equally rewarding. Because having type 1 diabetes put my pregnancy in the high risk category, it was recommended that I be induced right at 39 weeks. I had regular massages (several with .maddibee), and saw my chiropractor, .stodola, and my acupuncturist, , at , while trying to conceive and throughout my pregnancy to encourage optimal fetal positioning, reduce pregnancy discomfort and stress, and aim for a natural induction of labor. I met with my therapist weekly and connected with other mamas through ’s Mama Mastermind program. Right before we conceived, I worked with after finding out I had PCOS and the antibodies for Hashimotos. During my second trimester, I completed prenatal yoga teacher training with , owner of the Dolphin Method, who also made me a personalized meditation to listen to leading up to and during labor 🙏🏼. In my third trimester, I started pelvic floor physical therapy with .pelvichealth to work to improve some p***c pain I was having. Special thanks to our doula, (who we now consider family), and to all of our friends and family that helped along the way. Overall, we had a great experience at Lakeview Hospital; the nurses we encountered were all wonderful, and Dr. Dean provided excellent prenatal care and guided us through having to decide a ceasarean birth was the right decision after laboring for over 24 hours because Mikko was malpositipned and my cervix had begin to swell quite a bit from the prolonged labor.
, my rock, was my saving grace throughout pregnancy, labor, and now during my postpartum journey as well. His support is unshakable and I would not have been able to do it without him.
