When your baseball game gets canceled you have to “help” dad in the garden. They were having fun until I gave them baths with the water hose and then it wasn’t so much fun.

This weekend the weather was perfect for working outside so we took full advantage of it. The misses and the kids spent Saturday at the Children of the American Revolution Conference in Pigeon Forge so I spent the day sifting dirt with my new sifter (game changer). I got our new raised beds filled with dirt and on Sunday we planted onions, shallots, carrots, spinach, and turnips. I also got our big garden tilled again, I’ll hit it one more time after the rain this week and then we’ll start planting things in it. I also made a huge upgrade to our seed starting station. The wife says it doesn’t go with our decor but I kinda like it.

Made the first round of tilling the big garden today before the rain sets in. We didn’t do it last year and I missed it! We had one helper with picking out big rocks, but he only lasted about 20 minutes. A few more times tilling and we will be ready to plant.

I haven’t posted for a while so I thought I’d give everybody an update on the farm. Between snow, broken bones, and a new job progress has been slow, however we have been working on some things behind the scenes and will have some announcements this weekend. Make sure to keep an eye out in the future, once things settle down with the new job and the weather starts warming up things will start moving again. Until then here’s a picture of our little farm girl with her broken arm, the first broken bone on the ridge.

Day 11 of . Tonight was all computer work. I’ve started making a homestead planner that will keep track of everything that has to do with our farm including our animals, the projects we hope to complete, the food we preserve, and everything in our garden. It will take a while to get everything designed and put together the way I want but I’ll be able to reuse the same design year after year.

Day 10 of .

I missed days 7-9 due to basketball practice and weather but I’m determined to get back on track and stay consistent throughout the rest of the month.

Today I planted some more onion seeds and some strawberry seeds. We now have 100 onions planted and our first batch of onions is looking good. We have never grown our own onions before so this is all new to us. I also started 25 strawberry seeds, which is something else we have never grown before. These take a long time to mature before we can move them outside in April so you will probably see them in the background for a while of any pictures of our seed starting set up.
