If you've ever enjoyed following along with our little farm, wondered what life is like here in Hampton Roads, or found one of my homebuying posts helpful, I have something I'd love to share.

I've brought back **The Cactus & Key Chronicles**—a free monthly newsletter that's part local guide, part farm journal, and part behind-the-scenes look at the life we're building.

Each month, you'll get:
🐐 Stories from the farm (goats, chickens, gardens, and all the real-life moments in between)
📍 Local events, businesses, and hidden gems around Hampton Roads
🏡 A simple, no-pressure look at what's happening in the local housing market and tips for current or future homeowners
🌱 Reflections on family, business, and creating a life with intention

No sales pitches. No inbox clutter. Just one thoughtful email each month that I hope feels more like catching up with a neighbor over coffee than reading another newsletter.

If that sounds like something you'd enjoy, I'd love to have you join our little community.

Another successful hatch of Light Brahmas and Ermines 😍

We had a successful batch of new friends hatch yesterday. Lots of Ermines and Light Brahmas.

When we started our farm, we knew it was important that we identify breeds that we wanted to raise beyond just looks.

Some of our breeds are on the livestock conservancy list: like our Red Bourbon turkeys.

Mr. & Mrs. Turkey have gifted us with another batch of poults and they’re funnier than ever 😅

We’ve welcomed a new herdsire to our farm, a Boer buck named Mr. Pickles.

We love a quiet morning with coffee ☕️

🌱 **Did You Know? USDA Offers Microloans for Small Farms**

Whether you're dreaming of starting a small farm or looking to grow the one you already have, the USDA's Farm Service Agency offers **Microloans** designed specifically for small-scale and beginning farmers.

These loans may be used for things like:
🚜 Purchasing equipment or tools
🐐 Buying livestock or poultry
🌾 Purchasing seed, feed, or supplies
🏡 Building or improving farm infrastructure
💧 Installing fencing or irrigation
🌻 Covering annual operating expenses

Microloans are intended to be more accessible than traditional farm loans, with a simplified application process and smaller loan amounts that fit the needs of many family farms, homesteads, specialty crop growers, and new agricultural businesses.

At Cactus & Pine Farm, we're always cheering on others who want to start their own farming journey. If you've been wondering how to take that next step, this may be worth exploring.
