When we started our farm, we knew it was important that we identify breeds that we wanted to raise beyond just looks.

Some of our breeds are on the livestock conservancy list: like our Red Bourbon turkeys.

Mr. & Mrs. Turkey have gifted us with another batch of poults and they’re funnier than ever 😅

🌱 **Did You Know? USDA Offers Microloans for Small Farms**

Whether you're dreaming of starting a small farm or looking to grow the one you already have, the USDA's Farm Service Agency offers **Microloans** designed specifically for small-scale and beginning farmers.

These loans may be used for things like:
🚜 Purchasing equipment or tools
🐐 Buying livestock or poultry
🌾 Purchasing seed, feed, or supplies
🏡 Building or improving farm infrastructure
💧 Installing fencing or irrigation
🌻 Covering annual operating expenses

Microloans are intended to be more accessible than traditional farm loans, with a simplified application process and smaller loan amounts that fit the needs of many family farms, homesteads, specialty crop growers, and new agricultural businesses.

I don’t know who appointed them to the board, but apparently the goats have opinions about my July plans. 😂🐐🎆

I took my little hand-drawn punch card out to the pasture to snap a cute photo, and the farm committee quickly got involved.

One stuck their tongue out at me.
One looked like they were questioning all of my life choices.
One tried to eat the card entirely.

Business as usual at Cactus & Pine Farm. 🌵🌲

As we head into July, I’m feeling grateful for this little slice of chaos. The early mornings, the chore lists, the goat shenanigans, and the reminder that not everything has to be polished to be beautiful.

Here’s to sunshine, fireworks, fresh eggs, and making memories that are a little messy and a lot meaningful. ❤️🤍💙
