8 turkeys processed out today. I am so very thrilled! Thanks Beak & Burrow for the hand today! Really made processing run super smoothly. We had a whole factory running here. It was awesome. I finally got to put last years Christmas present to use… my big meat grinder! Hoping I have enough ground turkey to last us the year now. Bonus- Jessica and I both have thanksgiving dinner covered 🍗🦃.

Sorry no turkeys for sale this year… trial run for ourselves but considering expanding a bit for offerings next year!

Side note; these turkeys were so much fun to grow out. I will miss them following me around the yard 🥹. 100% will do again.

Garden clean out day!
Said goodbye maybe a little prematurely to our okra- but room had to be made for some fall crops.
Harvested some beautiful butternut squash and our lone Santa Claus melon (seeds procured from one of fave store produce items and I accidentally planted them with the butternuts- will def plant for summer harvest next year 🤩).
Also a couple small sugar baby watermelons that I had to go ahead and cull for space…. we will see about those later.

Ailment season is upon us! Time to get your elderberry syrup whipped up! I have freshly frozen elderberries available- picked this August from our organically grown plants right here on our homestead. 1lb bags for 💲2️⃣0️⃣

I am linking my favorite recipe in the comments- it’s so easy too- I use her instant pot option and it’s sooo fast! My kids love this recipe and they are hard to please. We personally top it off with locally sourced honey, my brand of choice is from Evans Farms. They have the BEST honey.

I am flying by the seat of my pants over here lately and absolutely failed on letting yall know my swap plans 😅. But I am set up in our regular spot at gilmanor with lots of pullets and laying hens and a fresh batch of chicks!

Got our spots for Gilmanor!! Same spots as always! And we’re next to our friends Fox & Fern Farm, LLC (this is their graphic from last swap lol)

Tomorrow we’ll be going bright and early, swap starts at 8am. Customer parking is $5 per vehicle, cash only. Remember to bring cash, boxes for animals, and a wagon is super helpful to tote your items and children.

🎡 ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY FAIR 2026 🎟️

I’m so very tired but I’m so very proud of my kids… they both got into 4H this year and decided to get their feet wet in showing. They each brought an American Bresse chicken and a standard Rex rabbit. One of the bresse got two first place ribbons🥇 and overall reserve champion 🏆. Then one of the Rex got two first place ribbons 🥇 and grand champion 🏆!!! With the other Rex getting a second place and third place ribbon, and the other Bresse getting a third place ribbon. Super duper proud of these home schooled kiddos putting themselves out there and using this opportunity to practice their public speaking.
I am first a homeschool teacher and second a homesteader… but something absolutely heartwarming when these two worlds collide like this. I’m so thrilled and grateful to have gotten going in 4H this year. It has really given us some amazing opportunities.
