We changed everything and the herd has never been better. ππΏ
No grain. No kids this year. Just big roll hay, loose minerals with bio worms mixed in, and rotational browsing.
That's it.
Like most goat owners we have been in a constant battle with intestinal parasites. We tried everything. Finally we made the decision to strip it back β let the land and nature do the work. Rotational browsing keeps them off contaminated ground. The bio worms in the minerals attack the larvae before they become a problem. And pulling grain out of the equation has made a visible difference in overall health and condition.
We also made the tough call to take a full year off from breeding β no kids, no milk. Just giving every single one of them a chance to fully recover and reset. It was hard but it was the right call.
One thing we want to be clear about β if one of our goats shows signs of a real problem, we treat with a chemical dewormer. No hesitation. The natural approach is wonderful for prevention but once they actually have them we are not taking chances with their lives. Prevention naturally, treat medically when needed. π
They get hay, minerals, browse, and the occasional melon or peanut treat. They are thriving. π€
Fellow goat owners β what has worked for you in the parasite battle? π
