Some wedding days stay with you long after the last photograph is taken. Haley & Granger’s story is one I know I’ll carry with me for the rest of my career. 🤍
I first met H & G over two years ago for their engagement session, which, to this day, is still one of my favorites I’ve ever photographed. During that session, Haley asked if we could also take a few photographs with her family. Her dad had recently been diagnosed with glioblastoma, and those photographs suddenly held a weight none of us could have fully understood at the time.
As the following spring approached and wedding plans were taking shape, her dad’s illness progressed, and Haley & Granger made the incredibly difficult decision to postpone their celebration.
That summer, Haley called me with a different plan.
Would I come to their family home in Newport Beach and photograph an intimate ceremony with just their families?
Of course.
Haley wore her mom’s wedding gown. They exchanged vows surrounded by the people they loved most, with her dad there to witness it. We spent the most beautiful evening together, and I knew even then that I was photographing something far bigger than a wedding. It remains one of the greatest privileges and most treasured memories of my entire career.
And then, finally, this summer: Sun Valley. 🦋
The celebration they had waited so long for.
Haley’s dad was woven into the weekend in so many thoughtful ways, including butterflies that appeared throughout the celebrations. His presence was felt everywhere.
But more than anything, this weekend was filled with JOY. So many smiles. So much laughter. So much love. After everything it took to arrive here, no one took a single moment for granted.
Somewhere over these last two years, I stopped feeling like just Haley & Granger’s photographer. I feel like I’ve become a tiny part of both of their families, and it is something I treasure more than I can say.
H & G, I hope you weren’t planning on getting rid of me after the wedding, because I’m afraid you’re stuck with me now. 🤍
