Hi farm friends!

We will be at the Show Low Main Street Market this Saturday. We will have local grown seed, teas, cover crop seed mixes, hydrosols, dried herbs, fresh cut herbs, duck eggs and farm grown plant starts such as:

Varieties of rare heirloom tomatoes
Nasturtiums
Fort Laramie Strawberries (1 six pack left)
White yarrow
Toothache plant (Spilanthes)
Root Beer hyssop
Dill
Chives
Peppermint
Spearmint
Parsley
Valerian

We will not have veggies yet. The job change made me miss the spring planting season.

From the field into the basket, and straight into the Still. Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is considered a handy first aid plant. The hydrosol does not smell great but it is know to be antiseptic and astringent. It also had Azulene present in the distillation but in much smaller amounts than German chamomile.

Did you know Azulene is known to be anti-inflammatory and very soothing. It is a co-product with chamomile essential oil and hydrosol. Unfortunately it is very hard to make a decent amount or separate it out so I just keep it in the Hydrosol.

The red rose bush is telling me it’s time for the first batch of rose hydrosol to be run this weekend. Then will be chamomile and yarrow. Good times!

This hydroponic system blows my mind. I am over here all like “roots need to be kept underground and in the dark to function adequately”. Meanwhile experimental hydroponic growers are like - “nah. The roots are good”. (To explain the system, the squash plants are mounted from the top down in a rotational structure that moves along a track, never stopping. Part of the time the squash roots are exposed to air and the rest of the time they are sprayed with water and a nutrient/fertilizer mix as they move through the closed portion. There is not a speck of soil or non-soil medium to be found.). Mind blown🤯. Thank you Behind the Seeds for an amazing tour and a ton of content.
