Chatting with a new Sol Mate at purejuicenjoy a few weeks ago….
This Sunday will be at from 2:00 P.M. to
3 P.M. at purejuicenjoy 2155 E University Dr Ste 104, Tempe, AZ 85281.
We will be discussing plants that help with allergies and helping children eat more plants.
We know that harm reduction is about more than drug and health policy - it's about power. Who has it, how it's used, and where it's redirected.
As we continue learning through Black History Month, we want to talk capitalism. Beyond exploiting labor and discouraging focus on the collective good, systemic oppression thrives on it. To this day, Black communities continue to be institutionally marginalized through racist economic policy, from discriminatory lending to red lining.
And while we work toward a more just economic system, we know how important business ownership is as a path toward economic freedom. Because when people are able to do work that fulfills them and make a living off their creativity while having their needs met, they're gonna have better health & social outcomes!
But there's more nuance to it. Lots of folks act like supporting Black-owned businesses could be the end-all solution. It's not. We also need to support power building and justice outside of this current economic system - such as focusing on community-based food systems, advocating for policing alternatives, and so much more.
But right now, one easy thing we can do is make a conscious effort to support black owned businesses while recognizing that it's not an end-all solution and our larger goals should be geared towards building new realities and futures that don't rely on racialized capitalism.
This stuff is heavy & can feel insurmountable. But our work, together, makes positive change.
