WAKE UP AT 3:00 AM? 5 THINGS EVERY CATHOLIC CAN DO BEFORE GOING BACK TO SLEEP

Have you ever suddenly opened your eyes in the middle of the night and noticed it is around 3:00 AM?

The house is quiet.

Everyone else seems to be asleep.

You may even wonder:

“Why am I awake at this time?”

You don't have to become frightened or assume that something supernatural is happening.

Instead, you can simply use the moment to turn your heart toward God.

1. Make the Sign of the Cross.
Before reaching for your phone or becoming anxious, make the Sign of the Cross and acknowledge God's presence. Simply say, “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

2. Thank God for Keeping You Through the Night.
Even if you woke up unexpectedly, take a moment to thank God for your life, your family and the gift of another day approaching. A few sincere words of thanksgiving can turn an unexpected interruption into prayer.

3. Pray for Your Family and Those in Need.
The quiet of the night can be a beautiful opportunity to remember people who need God's help. Pray for your family, the sick, those struggling, and anyone who comes to your mind. You can simply say, “Lord, please watch over them and bring them closer to You.”

4. Ask God for Protection and Peace.
If you feel frightened or restless, don't allow fear to take over. Turn to God and ask for His protection and peace. You can pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, Psalm 23, or simply speak to God from your heart.

5. Go Back to Sleep in God's Presence.
After praying, don't feel that you must remain awake waiting for something to happen. If you are tired, peacefully go back to sleep. Entrust yourself to God and remember that ordinary sleep is also part of caring for the body He has given you.

In simple words, if you unexpectedly wake up around 3:00 AM, don't panic and don't assume that the time itself means something supernatural.
Make the Sign of the Cross.
Thank God.
Pray for your loved ones.
Ask for peace and protection.
Then rest again.
You don't need a complicated prayer.
Sometimes, a quiet “Jesus, I trust in You” is enough to turn an unexpected moment in the night into a moment with God.

Now you know.

One Sunday in Mass at St. Anne’s, Sister Connie Kramer spoke to us and said that we should welcome the sounds of little ones in our church and not let it aggravate us. The sounds should remind us that our church is growing and not dying. Her exact words were much more eloquent than mine. I get a bit distracted when the little ones are a bit “spirited” but I hear Sr Connie’s voice and I am reminded that this family with small children want their babies to go to Heaven also and so should I.

A little glimpse of the beautiful Confirmation Mass for the Terre Haute Deanery. A sea of red, the Homily by the Most Reverend Archbishop Charles Thompson, the diversity displayed by our clergy, and the melting together of the many Terre Haute parishes from the Altar servers to the Lectors. It’s always one of my favorite Masses of the year.
