Alarms + timers are a necessary part of my life ⏲️, a tool I’ve learned to use to bring me peace, some structure, and good vibes. ✌🏼

What are some helpful things you do to plan your peace, make space in your brain, and make life more easy, enjoyable, and productive? I’d love to hear! 🙌🏼

We’re bacccckkkkk!!! 💃🏼🕺🏼🎙️ We’ve missed you this summer on the Long Haul Marriage Roadcast! Have you missed us? 🤗

Even if you haven’t lol, we hope you’ll join us on this new episode today as we settle back in for another season.

We talk about Belief vs. Hope, specifically, how they differ, but more importantly, how to choose a life of hope, when beliefs (on any topic) might seem less than certain at best, or downright bleak at worst.

Beliefs drive everything in life, and in our marriages. How we choose to show up, regardless of how our spouse is “treating us,” is our choice. When we learn to “de-personalize” our spouse’s sin, (whenever and however they miss the mark), and stay true to ourselves, and our own identity, we are released to be benevolent towards them, giving them the space to soften their hearts on their own.

And regardless what we believe to be true in our lives, in our marriage, about our kids, our jobs, our faith, or even ourselves, choosing to ACT hopeful, is doing the very thing that Christ meant by “daily carrying our cross.”

We hope you enjoy our conversation today! Welcome back. We’re glad you’re here.

The older I get, the more I understand the importance of tending to my mental, spiritual, emotional, and physical health. 🌿 I treat it like it’s my full time job. 🤓

Here are a few affirmations I say each morning to keep myself steadfast, focused, and grounded. 🤍🕊️

🌟 I am just so grateful to be alive today!
🌟 You’re stirring something in my spirit.
🌟 I make choices every day to take great care of this healthy and strong, brilliant and beautiful body and mind you’ve given me.
🌟I live with an abundant mindset- believing there’s more than enough time, money, and energy for everything I need (and I’m a really great steward of those gifts!)
🌟 I hunger and thirst for You above everything else.
🌟 TODAY IS GOING TO BE THE BEST DAY EVER!

I know it might sound woo woo- but I can’t begin to tell you how daily affirmations (speaking life over myself) have helped me. So call me woo woo. ✌🏼

I’d love to hear …do you speak affirmations over yourself daily? If so, I’d love to hear some of yours. If you don’t, I encourage you to try it and let me know what you notice after a few weeks! 🫶🏼

Have you ever walked through a season in your marriage where you felt disconnected… and didn't even know how to begin finding your way back? Or maybe you feel like you're just hanging on by a thread- in your own life or in your marriage.
We meet couples like this all the time. And honestly, we've been there too. We know what it's like to struggle in silence with our own mental health or to walk through seasons of a marriage that feels lonely, strained, or volatile.

Just recently, a couple told us, "We're so thankful for you! We've experienced more breakthrough in two sessions with you than we did working with someone else for two years."

Those moments never get old. We love watching hope return and seeing the light bulbs come on. It's not that everything magically changes overnight, but when people are given practical tools, wise guidance, and someone to walk alongside them who truly understands, real transformation can begin.

That's why we started Long Haul Marriage.
We're a 501(c)(3) nonprofit marriage ministry that exists to strengthen marriages, families, and individuals through coaching, workshops, and practical, hope-filled support. We also provide premarital counseling and have the privilege of officiating weddings, helping couples build a strong foundation before they ever say, "I do."

Today, about 38% of the couples and individuals we serve simply can't afford the help they desperately need. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we're able to say "yes" to many of those families instead of turning them away.

If you've ever believed that marriages are worth fighting for, we'd love for you to be part of this mission. Whether you need support yourself, know someone who does, share Long Haul Marriage with your friends and family, or feel led to become a monthly donor, every act of support helps us reach more people with hope and practical help.

If you'd like to donate or learn more, send me a message or visit our website at www.longhaulmarriage.org.

We'd love to connect with you.

Happy Sunday! ☀️

Don’t you love that Lionel Richie song, “Easy” (like Sunday morning)?? 🎶

For most of our 37 year marriage, Brian and I have been on staff at a church, which meant that Sundays were anything but easy. 🥴 Towards the end of our time serving at a church, that song kept coming to me, and I would think, “Goodness, we’ve never experienced an easy Sunday morning.”

I don’t even know what that would begin to feel like, but my heart began to yearn for it.
Early on in our marriage when Brian was on staff and I was at home with the kids, Sundays were really crazy with him getting to church at Zero-dark-thirty to lead worship and me getting the kids up and out the door – and it was hurry hurry hurry each Sunday!

Then when we were both on staff, Sunday was a major workday where I would make sure Sundays ran smoothly for our serve team, and Brian was in back to back appointments in the Healing Place. We didn’t even see each other on Sunday mornings, so needless to say, Sundays were anything but easy- and they sure weren’t days for us to start our days peacefully together. During those days on staff, there were so many sweet times and I hold so many memories close. I’ve made friendships that will last a lifetime from during that time!

When we left church staff to start Long Haul Marriage in 2024, one of the things we did first was institute a “Weekly Vision Meeting” on Sunday mornings.

Here’s the vibe… low and slow, sitting outside, coffee in hand, notebook, no phones….

In my handy dandy notebook, I make a little chart that says, “Personal/ Home/ Long Haul Marriage”- one for B and one for me. (See pic lol)

We each take time to breathe for a sec, one of us goes first and we share how we’re doing in each of those areas. (really- how we’re doing) It’s a time to be honest with ourselves and with each other about how we’re doing mentally, spiritually, physically, emotionally, in each of those areas. Sometimes there are tears (ok, mostly me🥲), but mostly, it’s a safe space we’ve created to hear each other and to see into each other’s hearts. (Intimacy = Into Me See)

After we share, we pray with, for, and over each other. It is a sacred time that feels more like worship, less like work, and we’ve never been more connected spiritually in our 37 years than right now. What a gift.💝

Just like Ecclesiastes says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

I’m grateful for all the years that we spent in ministry serving in a church, and I’m SO grateful for this season of serving together in ministry through Long Haul Marriage. My heart overflows with gratitude that I now can sing, “Easy like Sunday morning” and understand and appreciate what that feels like! Now I’m off to do our Vision Meeting! ♥️

Tell me your favorite thing about Sundays. ☀️

Thoughts on CELEBRATION 💬🥳

In today’s short and sweet podcast episode, we wish all you moms a happy belated Mother’s Day 💝 and happy birthday to me! 😁🎊🎈

We discuss the value in celebrating the ones you love and taking the time and effort to make them feel seen and special! I also brag on B for how he has always been super intentional and thoughtful in celebrating me. 🥹🥲

It doesn’t take booking a trip to Greece or Paris (although, ‘she’ wouldn’t mind those at all! 😆), to make your spouse (or anyone else) feel seen, appreciated, and loved.

Many of us grew up in homes where we celebrated big - all the things! 🥳 And some of us learned that celebrations are for other families. Many of us shy away from anyone “making a big deal” of us, perhaps fearing that we’re not worthy of the fuss.

Have you ever stopped to wonder if you have some complicated thoughts around celebrating others or being celebrated?🤔

Wherever you find yourself, it’s never too late to add the important practice into your life of celebrating those you love - the big stuff AND the small stuff. We can never be celebrated too much! 💐💌🎁🧸🍫

I’d love to hear your thoughts on celebrating….what’s something super thoughtful that someone did to celebrate you? What’s your favorite way to celebrate? How was it in your family growing up? Who can you celebrate today? Comment 👇🏼👇🏼

In the words of Kool and The Gang, “Celebrate good times, come on!”🎉🥳🙌🏼
