Ridgeway Family Farm Gypsy Vanner Cob Breeder in Southern Illinois. We breed in small numbers so all of our foals are well rounded and handled.

All of our stock of age have been under saddle so we know the temperment of each one we breed.

Out with the old posts, new holes dug, and in with the new. 92 degrees in October, would love rain and a bit cooler weather. The drought we are having is brutal.

Sorry, it's been a while. Owning a farm is 90% work, and 10% enjoyment. We had rotten posts, and we had some telephone poles. We redid the breeding area. We only in hand breed in one specific spot. We now have a good solid place to place a mare and foal in, with a stall for the foal, right in front of Mama. Or it can be used for a stall and small turnout for a horse that needs to be off pasture, or is hurt, etc. I may take a few outside mares on next year, but honestly just getting my own bred in my own time is a challenge.
We have dead oaks that we are cutting down, and they will make the railings. Will update when we get that project started.
Horses are up from the back pasture, and bred mares are in with the stallion and Kip. Kip is at the top and poor Moe is all the way at the bottom of this herd. It's good for him! 😁
Pastures are dying off, so hay is out, and pastures are cut off. The best part is from either of my porches, I can see my whole herd now until Spring. 😍

Next year's Foals. We only have a few foals every year. Next year we have foals due the 1st week of May! See the due dates and color possibilities. What we really love is a happy healthy baby and mama, but for fun we love to guess what color we may get. Do you have any guesses for next year?

We have ridden 3 days in a row. We are doing biometric lessons, working on me. Today was all about breathing. I know during a phase like show jumping, I have a tendency to hold my breath, and sometimes until the end. 🤦‍♀️. I got in rhythm tonight with Moe at the walk trot canter with my breathing. It really felt good. He doesnt mind the lessons, he loves to work and always runs up from the pasture when I call ready to go. Such a sweet boy.

I did a 2 week trial with Ride IQ. I did a flatwork lesson on walk to halt. Who knew you could learn so much from something that seems so... simple. While I dont think this ap can replace a trainer, I do think it can give us meaningful lessons that we can work on. We shall see how these 2 weeks go and if its something we will continue.
