The babies kicking it up with the wind that did not bring rain. Wrench… no. Beth joined the herd the next day. Legs is all calm and sweet and healed and off to the trainer next week. It’s heaven having them with me again.

My family has driven on roads in slow tractors with impatient drivers for years and we have been hit by a driver. Urban sprawl has made it so much more dangerous. What a senseless loss of life.

Richards, Texas. Quinn Bosse was operating a John Deere tractor on FM 149, near his family's ranch, shortly before 7 a.m. on August 19.

A pickup truck struck it from behind.

Quinn died at the scene. He was 21.

DPS says the pickup driver failed to control speed. The driver wasn't injured. Investigators haven't said whether charges will follow.

That same morning, Quinn had been eagerly anticipating the first day of his senior year at Sam Houston State University, according to his obituary. He was a 2023 graduate of Brenham High School, where he'd played golf and stayed active in 4-H and FFA.

He loved ranch life. Animals, hunting, the outdoors. He golfed, he skied, and he became an Eagle Scout alongside his brother and best friend, Blaine.

His family described him as having the brilliant mind of an engineer, a sharp work ethic, a sarcastic wit, and a deep faith. They called him a truly golden human being.

Members of Brenham High School's Class of 2023 came together to collect money for funeral flowers. They raised enough that, after covering the arrangement, they still had $350 left to put toward a scholarship in Quinn's name.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Navasota. He was laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Richards, the town where he died.

In lieu of flowers, his family asked for memorial contributions to Sam Houston State University's Friends of Agricultural Sciences.

I sure was tired with all the kids and work to do and garden and all the things. I miss the taste of homemade pickles and many of my family do too. It was a big life that I thought would be simpler. Stay small and do it well!

Today it's all about the pickles. Everything from the garden except the garlic.
