Usually, this time of year is packed with stress, gifts and frustration. We like to think it's a magical time, but often it's not. My mother in law asked me to design this old cabinet that she took from her old home that she raised her whole family in, which was quickly torn down to build condos. With tears in her eyes, she asked me to burn something with an elk in the woods, something that resembled her husband when he was alive. My father in law was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer that was unresponsive to treatment. When he lost his ability to walk, he scraped by this cabinet door each day, leaving scrapes and gouges from his wheelchair.
So I encourage you that with the new year approaching, don't make your resolutions to be to get that new car, lose that weight, or any of that superficial stuff. As I spent time on this project, I realized how small and simple of a thing this could have been to overlook. My wish for you is that you can manage to put down that phone, look up to the world, really live presently, and take in every moment and treasure each second you have with your loved ones. You never really know what will mean so much more later on, nor how much time you really have with them or to look around at the beautiful world around you. That is my resolution and wish to all. Wishing you all a Happy New Year from our family to yours!โค๏ธ
