Bee Bearding! It’s not putting thousands of bees on your face to mimic some epic facial hair; it’s when bees cluster around the entrance and even hang on the bottom board during hot and humid weather. They do this in order to keep the brood nest from becoming overheated. For healthy brood development, the hive should be between 90-97°F. When it is hot and humid outside, it affects the temperature inside the hive, so the bees beard in order to decrease the heat load and congestion, and increase the ventilation space, allowing for fanning to help cool the hive!

Interesting Bee-havior 🐝
We think the bee had honey on her and was getting cleaned because although they look like they are being aggressive, they aren’t stinging her. 🛁

Within 2 weeks this hive filled the honey super and ran out of room, so they moved up to the lid.
