As fall sets upon the landscape and seeds start maturing and drying, I feel like I need to give an update about West River Seeds.
Last year, I decided it would be my last year as the Vocational Educator at Kindle Farm. I wanted to take a year and go to culinary school to add to my skill set on teaching food and farming in some capacity. However, in February I got the opportunity to start a diversified vegetable farm for the Left Bank French Bistro, located in the Weston Hotel in Weston, VT. It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up and so I finished my teaching contract in June. As it was hard to say goodbye to the students and staff at Kindle, they were so kind to dedicate the greenhouse to me and made this beautiful sign to hang outside the greenhouse, which was my second home for 5 years. I feel so grateful to be part of the Kindle Family and lucky to have worked along side some of the best staff and students.
Now I just get to farm all day, which is fun and really a dream job in so many ways. I am lucky to work with such a talented crew. However this change makes it a bit more challenging to come home and focus on my seed gardens. I definitely had a much smaller production this year but I have a great stock of inventory. I know I will continue to save seed for the community but we will see how it will unfold as far as selling seed. I will let you know more in December where you can find West River Seeds locally.
Thanks for reading and enjoy the beauty and bounty that fall is bringing! ❤️👩🌾Toni
