One of our favorite parts of raising cattle is learning about their individual personalities. This girl LOVES to splash water out of the cattle drinkers. In fact, she’s done this since she was a young replacement heifer that we kept to join our cow herd. She stood here for at least 20 minutes just continually lapping at the water. Seems like we figured out why it’s always wet around the drinkers. 🐮

We spent a little extra time yesterday giving extra feed and bedding to all of the cattle and livestock. A good thick bedding, a little extra roughage, and a place to get out of the wind makes a huge difference to keep everyone warm through the cold snap. This bale shredder makes quick work out of getting the bedding spread out and ready for the cows!

Just like people, cattle are creatures of habit! We notice at feeding time that the calves may mix around a bit, but they are typically in the same area of the feed bunk for every meal!

Feeding might seem random, but did you know that cattle tend of eat at the same place at the feed bunk everyday and in the same order. This is why the timing of feed delivery and the placement of feed (level and 'end to end') is so important.

The cow kids behind it all. The ones riding in the skid loader, helping string up fence, dumping buckets of grain, collecting eggs and “helping out” on every farm task. ❤️

The goats have been hard at it cleaning up weeds and brush around the farm this summer. They do a great job eating the grasses, weeds and brush that nobody else will touch. They are a great addition to the farm!
