Our sweet Muscovy, Petita, has a clutch of 6 eggs she’s been sitting on that I found today! I’ve been trying to find her nest for at least 1, maybe 2 weeks now as I’ve been noticing her going missing from time to time (especially snack time & that’s just not like her to not take her special snacks from my palm every day).
Anywho… I’m excited I finally found it today!
BUT also worried, especially about the Rat Snakes, as they keep finding nests that my girls are left to lay on & keep getting to the eggs, although it’s been a few weeks since I’ve seen one around.
We haven’t had much luck hatching our own, so I’m going to let her sit on these.
SHE’S SO PRECIOUS! 🥹
Questions:
She’s been going into her duck house at night for dinner & safety. Then sitting on her eggs during the day (cause I just couldn’t find the nest until now).
But… Now that I know where it is, I feel it’s at risk of flooding or being disturbed, or heaven-forbid eaten. Should I move the eggs & her into another space?
Will that mess up her sitting cycle or feeling secure where I put her?
I can remodel this space to enclose it just for her with hardware cloth, but her duckling daddy, Kendrick, I know will want to be able to be next to her too as he does.
I offered her some water & food today & hope she’s doing well.
Any advice on keeping her safe & healthy during this time would be deeply appreciated 🥰
