Big daddy just got a new batch of babies to raise! These babies just graduated from the above ground nursery to the outdoor big nursery. We’ve got blue creams and buffs galore right now. I have focused hard on raising all my babies during the winter to better develop my pens 😊💚💚💚.

SPRING IS COMING!! 🌼

On that note, what is everyone looking for?
Hatching eggs 🥚,
or chicks? 🐣
I will have eggs and chicks available soon,
mostly from my blue cream pin and my cuckoo/black pin (fun pin).
My paint pin has yet to start laying again so until then it will be just the two colors.

Trying to name chickens is so hard especially in threes. Wha names would you guys use for a trio of jersey giant girls!?!?

I couldn’t have said it better myself!

I couldn’t have said it better myself!

This is a topic not talked about enough in poultry — and it needs to be.

I get messages daily about sick birds. Lameness. Sniffles. Lethargy. And my question is always… why are we not talking about this more publicly?

Do people feel ashamed when a bird gets sick?

Here’s the truth: all animals get sick.
I get sick. You get sick. Chickens get sick. Unless they live in a bubble 24/7, exposure happens.

What matters isn’t pretending it doesn’t — it’s how you respond.

When a bird shows signs of illness, slow down and diagnose first. Don’t panic. Don’t ignore it. Don’t jump straight to extremes.

The first question I ask myself is:
“Is this animal suffering?”

If the answer is no — I treat appropriately and monitor.
If the answer is yes — I treat appropriately and act quickly.

I will never recommend culling something that is fixable. Responsible animal ownership means learning, assessing, and making educated decisions — not reacting out of fear or pride.

I strongly believe controlled exposure to normal environmental bacteria makes birds stronger and makes your next generation even stronger.

And no, im not saying all animals should be in your breeding pen, but they still deserve to live.

Talking openly about sickness doesn’t make you a bad breeder or owner. Truly shows you’re responsible.

Having chickens is litterally just a long term science project and I will forever look at this way form now on. 😂😂
