Kopf Canyon Ranch, LLC - Kiko Goats in Idaho

Kopf Canyon Ranch, LLC - Kiko Goats in Idaho We raise New Zealand, purebred, and percentage Kiko goats for breeding stock, land management, pack goats, and meat. We do sell goats, it keeps us in business.

We aim to help others succeed in raising goats - of any breed - by sharing our experience and knowledge through our page, and our goats. We are in the business of helping others become herdsmen. We enjoy success, but cannot be successful if others aren't succeeding. We are invested in the success of goat husbandry - your success - even if you are halfway around the world and we will never have the

opportunity to meet. We are blessed to know that what we share makes a difference. Your comments and engagement with our posts help us to know what is helpful. Dale & Karen Kopf

If you love to garden...you need goats!
Goat berries are a wonderful thing...and goats make a lot of them. Unlike some other animals - the food is completely digested and contains no w**d seed. The other wonderful thing about goat berries is their high nitrogen content - tied with rabbits - which is a component of quality fertilizer! If you wondered, now you know.
Even better - parasite resistant Kiko - no traces of deworming chemicals in your fertilizer.

With the detection of screwworm in Texas and New Mexico, new transport requirements have been issued. Check your state requirements for restrictions. By cooperating with requirements, we can limit the spread and work towards eradication again. This is a dangerous parasite that can impact US export markets. Screwworm.gov

GOT SCOTCH THISTLE?
Goats are phenomenal at managing and eliminating noxious w**ds. Ours have eradicated star thistle in many areas of the canyon...and have now developed a taste for our arch nemesis: Scotch Thistle - one of the hardest invasives to manage. Not just immature plants - they are taking on full grown spined plants and oblierating them. Scotch Thistle is no ordinary thistle - it is brutal. If you need goats for land management, we have them!

Fair Question - of 270 kids - how many bottle babies did we have?

This year was unusual for us. With the fence compromised during breeding season, 21 doelings were bred. We do not breed doelings. We took 13 kids from that group and sold them as bottle babies to allow the dams to grow and mature. 6 bottle babies were a result of 2 dam mortalities. 1 bottle baby was pulled for being a thief, 2 were pulled because they failed to latch properly, another was our mistake - we mixed up kids - and she was rejected. 1 was rejected by its dam, who had kidding complications. That makes a total of 24. If the bred doelings are not counted, it would have been 11.
