🇭🇹🕊️ HAITI LOST A CARNIVAL QUEEN. I LOST MY MOTHER. ❤️

Saturday afternoon, while I was traveling to New York trying to reach my mother, Ti Simone, the woman who gave me life passed away.

My heart is broken.

To the Haitian and Caribbean community, she was Ti Simone, remembered as a legendary Queen Dancer of Haitian Carnival. Our family’s story remembers her dancing from only 12 years old, eventually performing before enormous crowds and people from around the world.

But behind the history, the music, the dancing, and the legacy, she was my mother.

Even though she didn’t raise me, I loved her deeply, and I know she loved me.

Mom, I was coming to see you. I wish I could have held your hand, kissed you, and told you one more time:

“Mom, I love you.”

You lived.
You danced.
You brought people joy.
You made history. 🇭🇹

And now your legacy will keep dancing long after you’re gone.

My tears are falling, but Jehovah is giving me the strength to keep going and the hope of seeing you again.

Haiti knew Ti Simone.
The Caribbean knew a Queen.
But I knew her as Mom. ❤️

Rest peacefully, Mommy. 🕊️
I love you, and I will miss you every day.
